TuTu Tuesday tradition

Sep 20, 2022 6:31 PM

Tutus can be seen all over the city on tuesdays.

Even world leaders don their tutus.

Of course Old Greg sports his tutu.

Black Rock City even has post offices. Here is the one near me, it is on the 3 o'clock road hence the name BRC3PO. We have a mailbox for our camp on the Esplanade, it is the central road. Mail (including packages) gets delivered/picked up by volunteer mail carriers. But they have to be able to find you. Now days you can even get your Amazon deliveries, but fuck them, don't use Amazon.

Workers even can be spotted in tutus. Here I am sporting mine while doing a welding repair on a giant scorpion's fire shooting tail, as one usually does. Vehicles like this are transportation in Black Rock City. I'll add more about the scorpion below, lets get back to tutu Tuesday.

Tutus come in many shapes and colors, just like the people of Black Rock City

Enjoying a hoop in our camp. Our camp serves a playground for the city and a fun place to hang out for children of all ages.

A Black Rock citizen enjoying our camp. Our Shit Fuck Stack (under construction) behind him provides great views of the happenings in the city, art and open playa from the Esplanade. We always blast Reggie Watts as we erect it, another tradition. It was named after one of his songs.

Sweet tutu turtle transport

Enjoying some art.

Back to that busted scorpion. Here is my welder in position for repairs. I often bring my welder for art projects. This year I put it to good use as a team lead on one of the HUGE art projects (this was going on 2 weeks on site for me). When people find out you have a welder in your camp they seek you out for help. This time our camp car was the one in need of help. We spent all of tuesday fixing it.

Our other camp art car eyeing it's vulnerable prey. Missing it's claws and tail it is defenseless!

The mantis served as transport for years on the playa before retiring to Las Vegas. Maybe you have seen it in action there on Freemont Street.

Here is the broken part of the scorpions tail (some of the flame effect workings too). The tail can move and has 3 hydraulicly actuated segments. While putting the tail together, the crane operator goofed and accidentally put a dynamic load on the tail, that it was never designed for. This ripped apart the hydraulic ram mount and tail structure. We had to rebuild it all using steel we obtained in Black Rock City. It is amazing what you can find in the city. But one of the rules of the city is there is no money, everything is gifted (not bartered), we were gifted all the steel we needed.

Here is another tail segment and what the ram mount should look like.

After I cut out and welded in the required steel we started to put it all back together.

Finally getting the hinge and ram pins back in.

Fixing some other broken/missed welds.

The last weld as the sun is about to set!!!

A view of the scorpion together. The claws and legs also move with hydraulics.

Lit up with LEDs at night in attack mode.

Watch out for the stinger!

A fire battle between mantis and scorpion.

This is a bit of tradition in the most non traditional city I have been too. At least the pictures that won't send the imgur mods into a rage. Thanks for stopping by!

You should give it a try. Many people should check it out at least once. But it's definitely not for everyone.

The scorpion is badass. Welding on the playa is badass. Welding a scorpion on the playa in a tutu? Next level.

Could you elaborate on gifting culture? And why you said Not Barter?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It should be a spontaneous desire to give something to someone, just because their walking by or because they gave you something

I got sunburnt just looking at these pictures.

Sunscreen and water are important! Fortunately, as a brown human, I don't easily get sunburned.

Yeah and those warm nights can fuck off!! I needed cold nights! At least the storm missed us. How many years have you gone?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The lightning monday night was beautiful. This was #15 for me. I've skipped 2 years here and there (and covid years). How about you?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This was only #3 for me. Went 2018 and '19 and got spoilt with how nice it was those years lol.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah definitely beautiful weather then. Sometime 08ish? there were insane wind/dust where you couldn't even go outside for 4 days/nights. 1/
