It always seemed logical to me that a “staircase” is what your brand new stairs come in.

How to get that chiseled look so you can do some railing.

Measure twice (or twenty times), cut once.

Wood working/carpentry/cabinetmaking and such is absolute magic to me. I am a goldsmith and I tried making a piece all measured out once. And that was the only time. Now I can eyeball stuff and get it spot on as I can fudge and push stuff to get it the way I want, but measuring stuff and having it actually turn out correct is such a mystery to me.

Building the home step by step

They are going places, up and down.

Looks nice, just don't lean onto it too heavily. The end post have some serious cuts and the other posts don't add much strength.

Gonna suck getting full sheets of drywall up there now

Those are some sketchy cuts being made on that miter saw without a blade guard. It is only a matter of time until that blade catches and maims someone.

#1 stairs, intently.

I have seen a lot of recently built homes from national builders and this high quality work makes my brain short circuit. national builders subcontract this out to the cheapest workers they can find.
it would be terrific if hiring carpenters was the norm, rather than paying marginalized workers less than minimum wage and winding up with a house that will fall apart within 10 years.

hate the design, but great workmanship.

Based on only the stairs the house budget is likely Budget 1.000.000 $

More than because the house isn't even mostly finished so these railings are going to get wrecked and will need to be redone.

Looks like custom posts, very nice. I worry a bit about the narrow-ness of that corner post, though I'm sure they know what they are doing.

Then the owners paint it white.

Nah, paint it BROWN

Is that whole wall being spray foam insulation normal? I'd think that would be just perfect for fiberglass batting??

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Obviously, I'm not 100% sure of this, but to me the part of the house with those walls looks like a basement that has been refinished. If so, I *think* the wood you see there is not so much 2x4 as it is thinner furring strips that are pretty much just there to give a place for drywall screws to land. If that's the case, batting would have to be compressed to fit there, which would negate its insulative effect. Assuming this is all the case, spray foam is the right way to go.

This is a final finish job, not a job to do when the house is not even wired or plastered. Its going to get wrecked by workies carrying wood, ladders, plasterboard and tools up and down all day.

I think this is a remodel

3 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

They could expect and want that to happen. Looks like a remodel, maybe they want it weathered to match what they didn't replace?

😢 all too true

3 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yea, crossed my mind too. Seems a bit of a premature install considering the progress of the rest of the project.

but up and down what all day, doe? there would be no stairs.

Like the guy that did my stairs.. make it fit, so I can get the money before it fails. Those banisters need to be part of the structure, not glued and nailed to the propped up DIY store store stairs. In a few months, someone is going to be angry that their railing moves.. but, maybe grateful they can hear burglars coming up the stairs at night.
