I'm going to say this off tangent, but I have to say this. I'm compelled.
WD-40 does not belong on any component of a bicycle. I'm going to repeat this. WD-40 does not belong on any component of a bicycle. Sure, they now have a bicycle branded line that has specific stuff, but I don't like that product anyway.
I'm so sorry. I have spent a decade working in a bicycle shop and it is one of my largest pet peeves in arguments. It is a hill I will die on.😆

WD40 is also not a lubricant! This also needs repeating!
It displaces water. That is what WD stands for. Use Actual Lubricant!

The main ingredient in it other than propellent is hydrocarbon mineral oil. Motor engine oil falls into the mineral oil family. There is also a silicone version of WD40.
I don't use it simply because it's a very inefficient way of applying lubricant to the chain.
Do you prefer dry chain lubricant wax?
Where I bike, it gets wet and muddy. I wipe down the chain often to get dirt and sand out of it but I apply Mobil One 0W 30 full synthetic after wiping.

Do not poke the squirrel. (Mic is near not touching, trust me you would hear the difference. Oddly enough, I have poked a squirrel with the same kind of mic)
