I remember one episode where his daughter has a big confession of something terrible she did, and she's really reluctant to even tell him, but finally she reveals....that she jumped the turnstile at the subway once and didn't pay. He's all "If that's the worst thing you have to confess, I have majorly succeeded as a father."
Want to know something sad. That was in 2009. Firefly ended in 2002. The Serenity movie was in 2006. That means this reference is older to us, than Firefly was to it, by any metric. Congrats, you're now old.
There is also a bit when Castle puts blue latex gloves and does a gesture, too. According to Nathan in one of the Nerd HQ panels the costume was scripted, but the gesture with the latex gloves was not.
Fillion has build his whole Image around firefly references. Remember when jewel staite mentioned he had joked about buying the rights to it and people started sending him money, so he had to ask them to stop, because there were no actual plans to buy it?
My ex and I watched it all the time. There was one interaction, Beckett was being serious with Castle and he glances just past her and goes "Oh, toys!" and wanders off while she looks exasperated. My ex says "Oh my God! That is SO us..."
Even if it's officially classified as season 9, I still regard Med School as the spinoff that it was. Wasn't horrible for being that, could've really improved with another season (or burned out its promise).
Yeah, once Marlowe left, the show's quality went down, and it suffered from "Moonlighting" Syndrome once Castle and Beckett finally got married. The Castle abduction/amnesia plot line was a definite shark-jump - those last 2 seasons were just meh.
It was set up as a season finale, not a series finale. They were fully expecting a 9th season, but got the rug yanked out from under them after filming was pretty much done. Thus, the last minute, rushed, takked on feel to the finale.
I feel like it really suffered from proper "Moonlighting Syndrome", as they got the couple together and then almost immediately didn't want to do anything with that, separating them a bunch, etc. I think shows like Psych show you can get the couple together and make it work (and even break them back up and get them together again), but neither Moonlighting nor Castle really wanted to do that.
To be fair, this gif is 15 years old if it's referencing Firefly "five years ago." What I'm saying is Firefly is 20 years old. We're old, and we need ibuprofen.
Castle actually wears a number of different costumes in that episode besides Mal Reynolds. Caleb from Buffy, Captain Hammer, Edgar Allen Poe (Castle changed his middle name to Edgar.) Those are the ones I can remember. There may be others.
It's not hard to find, here is a torrent called firefly.mal-ware.s2E1-e10.tor on CopyrightInfringement.com. (this is a joke, don't click that link - I don't know where it goes)
I liked the whole thing, until the disaster of Season 8. Well, I don't remember the whole season, but at least the end was a total disaster—I think I remember reading that negotiations with Fillion to stay on fell through.
The previous commenters are talking about firefly. But castle ended because stana katic (beckett) made allegations fillion behaved inappropriately around s6 or 7. You can see it in the show as castle has vanished for a bit and when he returns he becomes a pi. Screentime between the 2 characters is very limited and angles give way for body doubles to be used. Contracts ended after s8 and it was decided to renew fillion and not katic (and the actress for lanie) as fillion had the titular role(1/2)
Sorry helpful comments were being downvoted (not by me). Indeed, I totally missed that it was a Firefly joke. Thanks for the backstory; I knew that there was unpleasantness at the end, but I didn't know that it started that early.
There was big backlash from the fans for that decision and really late into airing s8 it was decided to cancel the show alltogether. The final scene, with 3 little caskett children running around despite castle and beckett being shot and heavily wounded in their home in the precious scene, was filmed in a hurry to end the storyline. Hi everyone! Hey wasn’t Firefly a great show? Do you remember it? Yeah? Well it premiered 21 years ago.
Congratulations, you are old!

The Rookie has some great moments too https://youtu.be/ytcSK_KihXo

Castle is still on sci fi channel because people think actors and the characters they play are the same. Drives me crazy.

Plus the gag about why he randomly knows Mandarin because of an in universe show.

“I still like it!” Castle was a great show. Stana Katic doesn’t get enough credit. Too bad she and Nathan did not like each other irl
thepunchline710
After they took down the big bad guy it should have ended.
PineappleLoopsBroether
Stana is amazing. I wish her so much happiness.

I really enjoyed Castle.

Castle was a fav. I wish it had a better ending, but at least they didn't kill Beckett and fire Stana like originally planned.

Prolly cuz Nathan Fillion is a huge douche
NightshiftInappropes
I like his work, I like his persona. . . but i also get 'huge douche' vibes from the guy.
RobBobertyYT
Never seen any evidence of this. What have you heard?
Quebeker
In his head most likely
ThisGuyPostingThings
It probably should've ended a couple seasons earlier, as the overarching plots got ridiculous, but I enjoyed it a lot. Haven't rewatched it.
kinarism
That kinda happens to all good shows. Scrubs, Dexter, x files, friends, stranger things, marvel movies, etc.
TheUpstart
What the hell are you talking about? Scrubs ended PERFECTLY after eight seasons.

I don't remember if all of Season 8 was bad, or just the series finale, but boy was that a bad finale.

The chemistry between the lead actor and actress lifted the show, the quality dropped noticeable after they started to hate each other IRL.
