At this point, I was still so pissed that he didn't IMMEDIATELY mark the exit that the above comment didn't occur to me.
Not only that, but common sense is to grab something to blaze a trail with, and maybe a weapon and rope. But no. So that just made me want him to die quickly so someone a bit more intelligent could take a look at things.
Sell the stool? MF almost got lost and died before he picked it up!
Also, he wasn't actually selling much of anything to begin with, right?

He wasn't selling much but by the end of the movie they'd cleared that entire first room of furniture. It's free real estate. And he was in a nearly-empty furniture store, what weapon or rope would he have grabbed? And he was drunk. I thought the movie was overall pretty decent. I was familiar with the concept and I thought it was executed well. Yeah, Carl was a pretty unlikeable character.

I mean, sure. He'd dissociated to the point where....well, you know..over time. But that's the thing about trauma (or anything, really). We (humans) tend to normalize it if it goes on long enough.

The movie made me realize two things. One, liminal horror is the cousin of Lovecraftian horror with its unknowable designs and shapes. And two, while I don't find liminal spaces to be creepy on their own, they are an amazing setting for a mental thriller. Overall, I think the Backrooms movie is as good as it could have been for a movie based on a photograph.

Horror is different things to different people. I'm not bothered by liminal stuff, usually. But his reaction to it just pained me. MARK THE DOOR, DUMBASS!

I thought it was well shot, the acting was good, and the concept interesting but in the end I found it a bit underwhelming. Going into it I knew nothing about the backrooms other than there were games made and it was about liminal spaces. I wouldn't say most of the actions of those involved made much sense, generally when I am watching horror movies I don't critique character logic because as I have experienced a great deal out in the world, there are real people that will simply do wild shit.

Agreed. I do enjoy my personal spaces, but liminal areas haven't really given me any issues. It's not that I don't get the reason behind the unease, I just don't experience it.
I did experience vertigo once (getting ready to jump around 50' down into clear water, but the "bottom" was at least another 50' down. )
The sun was up, no shadows, and for a second the surface became calm. My brain couldn't differentiate between my friend sitting on the side and the "bottom" of the drop, and yow.

Keep in mind he was a bottle deep when this scene occurred. His later ventures while sober were slightly more cautious. I agree though he was a mundane character. Movie kinda fell flat for me too though.

I could be remembering incorrectly, but didn't he grab the stool AFTER entering, wandering around, passing the "Voyager" cutout, crawling through the tunnel, pursued by the monster, through the tiny door, back to the potS sign, and (luckily) finding his way out?
Even intoxicated I'd... probably... make better decisions. 😁

Multidisciplinary. My favorite area is human sensation/perception, but that's a huge combo of psych/physiology on the "human" side, that differs by organ, and natural sciences (Chem, physics, etc.) that are producing the stimuli.
Then it's how do you receive the "signal" and then how to process and resolve it.
Aaaand in general you are receiving and processing several at once, with differing organs, and trying to establish a cogent understanding of the "event".
Also stats and misc hobbies. ;)

Oh, and environmental chem. I have multiple patents in use by the EPA, mostly in organics (as opposed to inorganics) and dealing with water/wastewater.

I get ya, but there are plenty of other horror films types out there. Sinners was a really well shot film, and Obsession was terrific given the indie budget.
Neither have any particularly new elements for a horror buff, but they're both enjoyable!

IDK, maybe you could expand upon your personal definitions. In general, if there's a vampire, ghost, or similar critter, it's going to fall under the "horror" umbrella in the movie Venn diagram.
I mean, there are exceptions.(I want to cite "Twilight", but I've never seen it...) So there's that.

No, I meant it's not just you, imgur hasn't allowed adding pics after publication at least since 2000. Probably much longer, tbh, because otherwise anyone could get some cute kitten post to FP only to add some hardcore porn or whatever - it'd be utterly impossible to moderate.
I'm using the app, too, and it's amazing what one can get used to in the name of being able to mindlessly scroll one's daily distractions, lol.

That... can't be right. Titles were always un-editable, but images could be added, deleted, and changed in order (even on the Android app) until recently.
I'm more of a comment person than an OC poster (unless it's my kitties), but it's never been an issue before.

Nope, sorry. I started posting shortly after I got here in 2000 and there have been MANY times when I've wished I could add a picture or video after publishing a post. And it doesn't matter if it's on the app or on desktop. Now, you can absolutely DELETE images from public posts, but not add any. Even changing the order hasn't been possible since I got here, because I do remember that period of like at least a couple of years where imgur would fuck up the order in dumps and I'd always have to >

delete and repost the whole thing instead of just re-sorting it. Now, what DOES work, is if you put the post back to Hidden - then you can do whatever you want & publish it again. Maybe that's what you meant? So that's an option when your post hasn't been up for long, because doing it means you lose all the comments people have already left on the post.
