I converted a megadrive/genesis 2 controller for use on MSX as a Christmas gift for my friends. I think it turned out pretty sweet!

Here's how it looked originally (this one was hideously scratched, but fortunately that didn't matter

The MSX doesn't actually use a start button, so I filled in the button hole

Sanded everything smooth and gave it two coats of spray primer

Layed out some decoration ideas with tape and Photoshop.

The text has their family name in Hebrew, and "msx controller" in logo & katakana

I used waterslide transfer printer paper to apply all the decorations.

Next I did three coats of varnish, sanding in between every layer.

I'm pretty confident they will enjoy this present ?

Does the circuitry work unmodified on an MSX? I know if you try it on a Commodore, it can short two of the pins and damage the computer.

You just need to rewire it a bit for MSX, it's fairly trivial to do!

That's cool. I've never had an opportunity to use an MSX computer before.

Yeah, they belong to a very particular time period AND only in certain parts of Europe + Japan were they popular.

The idea of a single standard for multiple manufacturers was certainly ahead of its time. Had IBM not accidentally standardized computing /1

with the mostly off-the-shelf 5150, we might be using something derived from the MSX today. /2
