My friend/neighbor had a lab, and everytime they went down to their pier, she would grab any rock she found underwater (that she could get her mouth around), take it back to shore, and drop in her little doggy rock pile. These weren't just golf ball or tennis ball size stones. Some of these had to weigh 10lbs! They'd try to discourage it in fear of her damaging her teeth, but that dog had a mission.
"Wow! Yeah, that's at least like three thousand... fourty... niners... two clicks or something down there."
There's something so endlessly hilarious to me about the idea of the dog both having a vague idea of what constitutes a long distance while also not having the slightest clue of how numbers and units work :)

Our Finnish Spitz used to do this with clam shells in the beach. She'd feel their location with her paw and then just dunk & chomp them up.
