And how dogs see the world is as highly social animals tightly paired with other members of a pack. The human family they’re in is part of their pack. Not the same as a family, but similar enough.

You treat him as a little person and he treats you as a bigger dog. That seems fair.

And? I'm not even sure how this constitutes an opinion rather than a statement of fact.

But what if the dog is a furry little baby?

I have two 80lb dogs that are somehow also the tiniest baby boys in the world. Scientists are baffled at what tiny babies they are.

I will say they aren't always, but big dogs usually are. Had a spaniel collie mix that was an old dog from when she was a puppy. Then there was our black lab. smartest dog ever, but also was a a big baby and would crawl right up into your lap even when she was 17 and could barely walk.

This is an unpopular opinion?

I see loving, caring owners who really love their pets treat them like a toy that does tricks. Kinda bugs me. They have little understanding of what the pet is thinking.

Dogs really LIKE doing 'tricks' or having a job. It's intellectually stimulating and lets them feel like they are working. Dogs like to work. But that said, I judge people by other metrics. Like, whether the dog is well-groomed or has long nails and dirty fur. Whether it is a polite and mannered dog or if it jumps on people and snarls. A bit of body language easily tells me if the owner REALLY loves their dog or if it's just family property.

I think some owners really love their pets to death. Overfeeding them. Thinking watching TV with them for 10 hours a day is quality time together, etc. But they really do love them. That's what kills me.

I know somebody like that. He babysat my dog for one month and she came back ten pounds heavier. It's better than neglect, but I still prefer not to be around impolite dogs, and I've told my friend he needs to do better. :\
