I wanted to change the looks of my car but couldn't find the body part I needed in the right color. I looked up online how to clean and repaint these parts and decided to give it a go.
First step was to take it apart and seperate the peices that I wanted to paint.
I then used ultra fine wet and dry paper to rub down the parts. The aim here is not to strip the existing paint but to break down the surface and make it suitable to receive a coat of paint.
At the end of day 1 with two layers of Primer.
Day 2 rubbed down again with even finer wet and dry just to break the surface of the primer and take off any sharp edges. After this I applied four coats of colormatched car paint.
Day 3 I again rubbed down the paint to take of the sharp edges and then applied a final few coats of laquer. I know it looks like I had runs in this picture but thats just the way the lights were reflecting off the parts.
Re assembled and waiting for a day with good weather to fit to the car.
