My opinion: if it was $175 million, I suspect that financiers would tell him "That money disappears and it's your ass." After all, he's not really a billionaire, probably not a millionaire, else he'd not need financing.

Judges don't make gag orders which prohibit threats against them.

On a practical basis - the judge could jail him, but he couldn't confiscate the bond for the appeal. I'd be OK with the jail time.

The bond is not FOR the appeal. He can appeal without posting the bond according to NY law. It's to prevent the AG seizing assets while the appeal takes place.

OK, maybe I don't understand. If the judge ruled that Trumplestiltskin had to remain silent, and he didn't do so...doesn't he forfeit the bond? If not, what exactly is the purpose of a bond?
bortlp
The purpose of the bond is to prevent the AG from seizing his assets while the appeal moves forward. The bond is not necessary to appeal in NY state law. If he didn't post a bond the AG could seize Trump Tower, sell it, and if the appeal rules in his favor, the AG would only have to pay back the proceeds from the sale, not reverse the sale and give the building back.
