measles can lead to a ton of stuff even many years down the road. Anyone claiming it's just like chicken pox where you are just sick for a few days (even ignoring the deaths) and then your over it and safe is about the same level of advice as drinking bleach is.

Chickenpox can be serious. Particularly for adults as it tends to hit adults much harder than children. A friend of mine who had never had chickenpox (pre chickenpox vaccine age) as a kid picked it up from his kids and suffered for about six weeks. Another potential lasting side effect is lowered fertility. When it comes back around as Shingles....

Please don't underestimate chickenpox. Like measles, it can cause complications that may lead to permanent damage or even death. The virus remains dormant in the body for the rest of one's life and can suddenly flare up decades later, causing shingles, which is extremely painful and can lead to permanent nerve damage in some sufferers.

Yes. That's even worse. The routine first dose of MMR is at one year. So infants are relying on herd immunity. With lots more measles cases going about, there are going to be many more exposed infants than in the past.
