There are currently 389 voter suppression bills in progress in 48 states across the USA. This is not a one off arbitrary situation, but a determined and specific attack on democracy by the GOP in order to gain advantage.

The GOP are using the big lie of the stolen election to bring in changes that pander to their base because keeping their jobs is more important than honesty, integrity and self reflection.

This needs to be stopped before it is too late.

The 1st mistake you made was to create a "ruling class".

They're usually pretty good at making themselves.

What’s f’ed up is trumpers all think they’ll be on the finish line high giving each other. Your going down too assholes.

Some believe that being the towel boy on the winning team gets them a SuperBowl ring like the players do.

It started dying the moment that orange fuck was elected. It's already too late, probably.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It started picking up momentum with St. Ronnie Raygun.

Fair.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same thing is happening in NZ with the Govt breaking its own laws and then retro fitting them, then putting spin on it. See Andrea Vance.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We are not taking it seriously enough.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

If we just become Republicans, then wouldn't we be the ones in power? I haven't really thought this through...

Always upvote Tommy Douglas

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Already too late, the GQP has stacked local, federal, and the Supreme courts. The Democrats sat on their hands and let the republic die.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

The democrats kept their powder dry for years, never picked it up when we needed to. They're either cowards or complicit.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ding ding ding! It's likely already too late.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tommy Douglas is the architect of universal healthcare in Canada. ( he’s also Kiefer Sutherlands grandfather)

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

He was also a big fan of eugenics.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Did it ever impact his politics in any way? Or was it something he looked into in his youth and then moved past?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He wrote papers about it. I would say that is pretty impactful.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Like 10 years before taking office, and when policies came up that followed along those lines he actually voted them down.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But he still believed in eugenics. And he also knew what would get him reelected.

Literally the greatest Canadian. And we also have Banting and Gretzky. Grey Owl and Margaret Atwood. Billy Bishop and Beiber...sorry...Lol.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Was never a fan of Atwoods writings. Terry Fox has to be on any top ten list, for sure ahead of Beiber.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That was the joke. Lol. Obviously Terry is a king and Beiber is a butt!

Republicans are straight up fascists and they are on the same level as Mussolini and Hitler. The use the system to destroy the system.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The people are not voting right so we have to help them fix this for the good of the nation -GOP

economic democracy? listen here boy that sOuNds LikE sociAlisM to ME

5 years ago | Likes 142 Dislikes 8

It is, isn’t it? I mean, I’m okay with that. I like that version of socialism. I give you my hours, give me the full value of my labor.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want strong unions and to remove corporate money from politics. But that doesn't mean I want the government owning/running every industry.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 8

There's always anarcho-communism. Against all unjust hierarchies, including the state.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Socialism is when the workers own the means of production, not the government.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism is where workers own the means of production. Socialism is the stage inbetween that dictators seize.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Not exactly. Socialism is an economic system, not a system of government. The reason we associate socialism with authoritarianism, may be 1/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/ a result of survivor bias. Meaning, there have been many instances of socialism that came about via democratic means, but they failed

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should take a moment to read the summary of the page you linked and the Socialism page as well.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Funny, I've never seen a socialist state where the workers own the means of production. Could you point it out to me?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Actually, socialism is about the workers owning/running every industry. Every time it was about a gov owning everything, it's not socialism.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That's never worked out despite dozens of successful 'socialist' revolutions. Besides, that's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

2) And do you want another shocking news?... communism is the same but owning/running the government. So, workers are the only social class.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This might be the first political post I've seen on here that truly hits the nail on the head, without bringing up either red or blue.

5 years ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 16

Could all the people here without a political science degree fuck off? Honestly, I just agree with the quote and don't give a single...

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Flying fuck what any of you "google research experts" have to say.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

GOP (Grand ole party) = Republicans. Just an FYI :)

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

He means the quote, not the caption.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah you could be right!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Neither red nor blue but of course this applies mostly to Republicans and conservatism. They're the ones suppressing the votes.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

Definitely mentions parties.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Immediately points to the red side after the picture...

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But rather orange!

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

(For non-Canadians, Tommy Douglas was the first leader of Canada's New Democratic Party, whose color is orange)

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I'm so happy we can talk about the color orange in a political context without certain instant connotations. Nature is healing.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Orange man good

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Should've known you were NDP. Me too. :)

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Canada the colors are reversed. Blue for conservative red for liberal

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Same for NZ - Blue National (Centre right), Red Labour (Centre left).

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, I'm in Southern Ontario, but given my relationship with a lot of family and friends in the states, I feel their politics directly...

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

...affect me. So I try and keep up on things.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

US has it reversed from the most of the world iirc.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Red = Conservative Blue=Liberal is actually kind of recent. From the early 1900s.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually the 2000 election in the US is where those come from. Before that, it varied by the cable network!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's fair.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And most people don't realize it is happening in their country until it is too late to avoid blood shed.

5 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 7

It's about five months and two days too late already.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

most people don't care* until it is too late

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Blood has already been shed in the last failed coup attempt.

5 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 3

And that coup attempt is still on going. See efforts to recount ballots until Trump wins with >80%. Jan 6 was just 1 attack

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And most of the people there did not realize what they were actually doing until they were arrested and Trump clearly abandoned them.

In their minds they were defending the country. They knew they were breaking laws but they felt it was necessary to save the country. 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Now most of them know they fell for a lot of lies from Trump and the GOP

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They knew what they were doing. The only surprise to them is that they were hung out to dry. That should've been obvious too.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Do Americans know who Tommy Douglas is?

5 years ago | Likes 452 Dislikes 2

We get it. America sucks. We've known this for a long time now.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

For the most part, no.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He's in the picture above, duh

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I unfortunately don't, but if this quote is accurate I like the cut of his jib.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Those are a brand of jeans right?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, we're not a hive mind so I'd say there's a chance a few do/don't.

No

i bet hes the guy in the picture

Only the people who voted for Biden and even then, questionable.

I sure never heard of him in public school.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only really taught in CDN schools.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do Americans know what fascism is?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If he wasn't named right there would you have known, whereever-the-hell-you're-from?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Absolutely. Tommy is the man.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dont know about younguns but most over 40 know his face. Canadian anyway. We do "Hooray for Canada" stuff often. He comes up...always.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm from Canada and he gets brought up in school here because of our history. But that isn't surprising really since he's Canadian.

He's the guy who essentially built the Canadian health-care system as we know it today. Also related to Donald + Kiefer Sutherland.

5 years ago | Likes 283 Dislikes 0

That is an interesting fact. Cousins?

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Tommy was Keifer's grandfather, mothers side.

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

So Donald’s father-in-law?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

yup

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Donald was his son in law.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Doo dah, doo dah...

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

He was also a proponent of eugenics, which was, unfortunately, popular at the time.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And we arrived at the conclusion. Nobody can be good. Everyone has something about them that makes them hurt others, even if unintentionally

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No one is perfect.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But imagine if we worked for a humanity that is. What kind of asshole told us that no one can be perfect? That thinking is why we failed.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He wrote a paper on it in university. He was not a proponent of such policies in politics, specifically rejecting them as Premier of Sask.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A fair correction, thank you!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't sound like a person a lot of Americans would (want to) know :P

5 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 10

Yes, insult an entire society, and pretend you aren't a part of the problem.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

How can you assume that they are part of the problem?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because they're ignorant fuck with a negative view of an entire people.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably not, but they know his son and grandson.

5 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 3

It's a trick question. He had no sons. :) to you, Spacepizza.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Kirk and Michael, I assume?

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It's Kiefer Sutherland's Maternal Grandfather. No relation to relation to Donald. Shirley Douglas was an actor in her own right.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good guess, but it's Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland.

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Cool. Did not know that

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Donald Sutherland, not Douglas. Dammit.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

You needed one Doug-less

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He had 2 daughters though?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're right, my bad. Kiefer is Tommy Douglas' grandson, but not Donald. Oops
