Smokey the Bear - Smoker Build

Feb 23, 2025 1:29 AM

Starting materials. 20” diameter pipe. Chamber 38” long. Fire box 21” long. Chimney 44” long 4” diameter

Got the legs on it.

Moved it to the backyard before putting the firebox on due to the weight. Lined out the openings and started cutting.

Doors cut and hinges added.

Almost done. Need to close up chimney and seal up doors.

Finally done.

All done. Just need to give it a pressure washer clean and burn it in.

Doing the burn in and checking seals. Had to bend some of the metal around the doors to get the lava tape and seals just right.

First cook.

14 lb brisket. Trimmed and seasoned. Home made seasoning with salt, pepper, garlic, onion, paprika, cumin and cayenne.

Burning clean and no leaks.

Bark formed up nicely. No burn spots. Even the flat wasn’t dry.

Good smoke ring, nice bark. Juicy. I give it a 7.5/10 but for the first smoke on the new smoker it was pretty good. Also this was a choice brisket. Next smoke will be prime to get a little more fat in it.

Can you do me a favor and give this guy some tips? They may be very interested in your process of cooking the brisket. /gallery/6TO3AJv/comment/2445491787

That'll last a whole lifetime versus the cheap thin junk you get from the hardware stores! Looks amazing!

And it cost only $500 in materials and 2 weeks of on again off again labor. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Super nice! That sounds like a fun project though.
