Sales job, long hours, customers come in randomly, long periods of silence that I love-love my job except when I have to work with another person who feels the need to constantly talk about a bunch of nothing(non work related). Not interested in changing the subject. I am interested in working and helping customers. My job is not to entertain you at work. #confession_bear #could_be_worse #shut_up #leave_me_alone. Edit- thanks for the responses, thank was just having a bad day

My favorite coworker!

Start taking about your problems even a tiny ones and they will shut the fuck up and leave you alone
godhasgoneinsane
This could work...it also could back fire-we will be stuck discussing complaints...Yikes!
SobchaksWorldOfPain
I'm in IT. Hated when people would interrupt my train of thought. Put a sign on my chair "I socialize when I'm standing". It helped.
godhasgoneinsane
Smart
mystichead
Used to do that with headset on/off signs. But Covid fucked that up w/ meetings & slack spam by ppl who see no meeting as free real estate
godhasgoneinsane
Stupid Covid
dart223
Asking for less social interaction isn't socially acceptable i have learned. Its offensive to most people. Good luck in that.
godhasgoneinsane
I realized this just before I posted and posted it anyways. I guess I needed to read the reminder. Again just a bad day
dart223
It sucks being talked "at" .
SerenityBrownCoatLover7
Which should NOT be the case. You are violating my ears, JESSICA.
godhasgoneinsane
I like this! “Violation of my ears”. Indeed it is!
theinterglutealcleftofmercury
Oh, man, I so get you. Have a newbie with me this weekend, talks nonstop between customers. It's like never getting a break from the job.
godhasgoneinsane
godhasgoneinsane
Yes you do get, it is like constantly working and it wears us down

sociopath vibes
godhasgoneinsane
I have looked into this in the past. I don’t meet the criteria to qualify as a sociopath...it’s only with certain people the vibe occurs
mousing
then whats your excuse
godhasgoneinsane
godhasgoneinsane
Seriously I just want boundaries at work. Chit chat at work without burdening others about your personal problems? It that a sociopath?
mousing
anti social behavior and flat affect are assuredly signs
NeynasGhost
There's a fine balance. I enjoy chatting with my coworker most of the time but she's fixated on her mom's death 7 months ago, how poorly her
NeynasGhost
dad and brother treat her, and swinging wildly from loving her cousin to being angry at them. She also insists on talking through my lunch
NeynasGhost
break which is the one time of day I really really want to be left in peace. If we aren't busy, sure I'll shoot the breeze. But please let
NeynasGhost
me eat in peace. It's 30 minutes. You can stop talking that long, surely.
godhasgoneinsane
You are a stronger person than me
UmamiMama
Just be honest and say, I'm sorry, I don't have the energy right now but please know I care. Can we chat about this another time?
KaijuMcCitysmash
The girl that sits across from me starts talking as soon as she walks in and doesn't stop until she leaves
godhasgoneinsane
Yup. Same here. My ears hurt
ricekickJR
Buy a bluetooth earbud? Just take em off when theres costumers. Problem solved. Fuck ur coworkers feelings.
godhasgoneinsane
Yup, gonna try this
UnagiFerrin
I've just learned to tone them out and utter occasional grunts and audibles of acknowledgement
godhasgoneinsane
Yes I usually do as well, I posted while having a bad day
UnagiFerrin
I feel ya dude. There're days where I've resorted to telling them to shut up and then apologize later, though I really shouldn't
dryrunner
Headphones.
godhasgoneinsane
Yes
ICampOntheFirstDate
Hate to say it but part of every job is maintaining interpersonal relationships. It's something we all have to suffer through.
godhasgoneinsane
True, I realized this as well before I posted but posted anyways. Again it was just a bad day.
butthurtnevergetsbetter
Constant yammering isn't "interpersonal relations", it's just an asshole who doesn't know when to shut the fuck up.
godhasgoneinsane
Agreed. It has to be work related to be relevant in r at the very least not be TMI
ICampOntheFirstDate
At some stage in your career a yammering ninny might be your boss, or it might be your employee. The ability to deal is an important skill.
godhasgoneinsane
Sad facts of truth
thevortexmaster
Or op is an irritable person and embellishing over nothing. We only know this side of the story.
BlueDuckPale
Yes it is. Whether you like the relationship or person isn't relevant. For all you know OP is grumpy miserable wanker and the other is tryin
godhasgoneinsane
Not necessarily miserable wanker, maybe a little dead inside. The persons conversations are usually one sided and depressing, not trying
BlueDuckPale
Oh, I'm sorry, do you know these people?
godhasgoneinsane
Does anyone really know anyone?
thevortexmaster
I couldn't work somewhere where there's no interpersonal work relationships. Sounds awkward as fuck
godhasgoneinsane
The soothing sound of awkward silence...
thevortexmaster
Hahaha yep
SerenityBrownCoatLover7
Sounds like heaven to me. I used to, but now I don’t care at all about a work associates personal life. They never cared to reach out when
SerenityBrownCoatLover7
As went to other departments or switched teams. It’s all fake small talk usually just about them. Torturous.
godhasgoneinsane
Exactly!!
