Given this, someone explain to me how leaving my lights on hurts the environment.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

burning the oil is better for the environment than letting the oil spill everywhere. Leaving your lights on requires more energy production

On Deadly Ground

Why do they do this exactly

Oil on fire is predictable. There is actually less risk, also better for environment.

Do you see all that fire? How else are you gonna make a fire fountain

Wasn't this one from.the gulf war? I could be wrong.

It's a long technical process that contains a number of different reasons for this action in particular, the short version is that it 1/2

This is how they rise gas prices

the burnt oil is less damaging than the oil itself. Burnt, nature can take care of it easier. Whole, nature will be fucked for eons.

Lesser of two evils, but still sad

My guess is this is either: Burning off methane, from a movie, or video of Iraqis setting wells on fire during their retreat from Kuwait.

It may be Iraq, hard to tell. But it's our boys (prolly boots and coots) stopping a blowout.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohh, and methane is a gas. Do not throw a fire rag at gas blowout that big. (fwaap)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think they do. The Kuwaiti oil fires were started as a scorched earth policy by Iraq.

They do however burn off natural gas, because it's worse for the atmosphere than the bits of CO from partial combustion.

And it's not always economically practical to store/sell the natural gas when drilling for oil.
