Absolver
Souls-style combat except everyone is Jackie Chan. In Absolver, from Sloclap, players roam the lands of a fallen empire and fight one another or team up in mentorships as they choose. You can create your own stances and your own fighting style from the game's "deck" of attacks, and can switch between four of them mid-combat. Essentially, you get a player-driven story with tons of user customizability and some really awesome looking brawls.

Manifold Garden
A game currently being made by William Chyr, Manifold Garden is a puzzle game where you navigate a world full of impossible architecture by switching around gravity to walk on and fall along all axes. If that isn't nauseating enough for you, each level tessellates on itself infinitely, as you can see above. Basically, imagine trying to do a level from Portal, except if you fall downwards out of the level you loop back to the top of it. And also there's moving block puzzles, worlds within worlds, recursive portals, and other witchcraft. It's hard to explain. Go watch an E3 demo if you want to try and wrap your head around it.

Frozen Synapse 2
The sequel to the amazing and unforgiving Frozen Synapse from Mode 7 is on the way. In FS2, players control a squad of units and plan out five second turns for them to take, telling them to the letter where to walk, duck, aim, ect. However, you have the ability to 'test' a turn, and give test moves to the enemy team in order to simulate as many scenarios as you like. Turns are planned asynchronously, and once both players commit, executed simultaneously. Coming out on top requires out-thinking and out-guessing your opponent as you aim to counter every possible plan they could throw at you all at once. FS2 will also feature a single-player mode where you compete with several AI factions for control of a city by fortifying your base, sending out your squads on the street to take over new buildings, buying new units to add to your free-form army, building alliances, and lots of other stuff. Randomly generated levels, destructible terrain, no luck-based stuff, cyberpunk minimalism, and a gorgeous soundtrack. And no elevator level this time.

Visage
You can't tell from this fairly potato gif, but people say that Visage looks like Allison Road (cancelled) which looked like P.T. (same) which was supposed to be a new Silent Hill. I don't know what that means, but I've been told it's a good thing. Coming from Sadsquare Studio, Visage is a psychological horror game where you explore a crazy realistic house (take a peek at the trailers) where a lot of people from a family have died. Except something is terribly, terribly wrong. The game's focus is on long, stressful buildups and sound design rather than jumpscares, but it will be packing a few of those. If you're into horror, check out the kickstarter alpha trailer. This is going to be something special.

Due Process
After a long trip through development hell, Giant Enemy Crab seems to have gotten things together. Due Process is a team-based breach-and-clear that brings to mind Rainbow Six and CS. Cops have to bust into the crims' building, using riot shields and flashbangs and wall charges and old-fashioned door kicking to get in and kill everything, while crims have to fend them off with mostly surprise and strategy. Unlike other FPSes, however, maps are randomly generated. Each team is given a minute to plan and draw on the map from an overhead view and decide how they want to either attack or defend a building that they've never seen before. Games are quick paced, action packed, good old retro fun. There's a lot of gameplay footage from the super alpha stage before the art style was developed, if you want to see it in action. Just be warned that by super alpha I mean literally all placeholder graphics.

I think we're only like a few days away from the guy who created Manifold Garden committing some psychological atrocity.

Souls-like combat is reaching

#1 needs more ladders, chairs, refrigerators and shirts used to fight with to be anything like Jackie Chan.

Indie games that aren't shitty, bug ridden and/or simpleton 8bit shitshows? Sounds promising...

Manifold garden is now on my watch list.

If you enjoy games like that, I suggest getting Antichamber. It's on Steam.

I remember when due process was a bunch of blocks shooting each other. Now that it has actual models, it has disappeared. Still waiting

My favorite build was when they had "I AM THE LAW!" placeholders.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The devs actually just sent out a memo on the reddit page, but the game has been keeping a low profile for a while

I for one liked the placeholders kept it simple. Been keeping a very loose eye on it for years now

I've been waiting on Due Process forever. I'm really glad they seem to finally be making good progress. Can't wait!

I legitimately cannot wait for Absolver to come out. Never been good at fighting games, but I have played and beaten all Dark Souls, so yea.

In my day you controlled the duck with the second controller and trolled your sisters by never telling them.

Visage may be cancelled...

I thought Absolver was more like For Honor?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's one of the hitches I have with it; the videos emphasize combat while descriptions talk about things not seen.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The only thing absolver shares with both is a 3d lock on system. The deck building combat is unique.

My SO got me into it, it took me a little while to get used to it but I loved it and wound up better than her. As soon as our vs scores 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hit a tie overall she just refused to play anymore because I was beating her in most matches. Sad times :( 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The most entertainingly strategic game I've ever played, I absolutely loved it. Not to brag, but I was a king at it back in the day. X3
