The Pixel 10 Pro's camera is the shit.

Sitting parked in front of our daughter's apartment last December. Saw a bunch of squirrels playing hide-and-go-seek; one of them was sitting on the root just to the left of that black car. Took a picture of it with max zoom.

This was the result. AI enhanced the sharpness, but that was all. Color me impressed.

(Note: this is not hail corporate or hawking Pixels, it's just the phone I happen to have.)

Cat tax: our beautiful long-hair persian whom we acquired in around 1983, and who crossed over in 1996.

I'd prefer to see how well it captures faces from a distance. I usually only take photos at concerts so it'd be nice to get better resolution when I'm not in the pit!

Is it the camera or the software being “smart” ?

Combination of both. It has digital zoom (I guess you could call that a form of AI), but then the software kicks in for enhancement.

Can you disable the AI or will it always edit your pics however it thinks it should?

Good question, I haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet. Only have had the phone a couple of weeks.

I have a pixel 7 pro, and use the 2 and 5 times zoom buttons a lot. It's not always the maximum amount of zoom to get the subject to fill the frame, but it selects the corresponding lenses and doesn't need digital zoom in that case. I have the illusion it makes for cleaner pictures, but it's just a feeling.
