#4. Inexplicably fails to mention that Jim Steinman was also the writer of the entire Meatloaf Album 'Bat out of Hell', but who can remember all these obscure '70s albums anyway! /s
The whole story of this song is fascinating, as well as the stories of many other Steinman compositions, including one with a connection to an '80s hair band.
Check out the Hit Parade podcast, which did an entire 2-part episode on Steinman; "Turn Around Bright Eyes" , October 16 & 30, 2020.

Lovely Post!

I believe Walk This Way(RunDMC Collab version) might also be one of the first of that nature too on a major label release. Remixing predates that song but RunDMC/Aerosmith has to be the first or at least one of the earliest official collabs between a hiphop group and rock band.

Pumped Up Kicks.
evealgenius
Never heard of any of these songs

#3 - Mentioning Steinman WITHOUT mentioning Bat Out of Hell .... sheesh

Hey I didn't write this!

#3 Meanwhile, in Europe „Dance of the Vampires“ is since many years a highly famous and long-running musical show in different countries
UncleVenoM
"Sweet Marsha, Mine" would have fit just fine and actually been a nice thing for his wife and not creepy.

#4 I'm in love with Polish version of "Dance of the vampires", listen it every now and then and would love to see it live. However, I get to know it after they stopped playing it live and there are no plans to revive this. I haven't heard other language versions (I'm aware of a German one).

Kind of a cop-out to write a song allegedly about the civil rights movement but not reveal that it was about the civil rights movement until 50 years later. You don’t get points for that.

#7 Absolutely legendary music video!

Very interesting info. Thanks @OP!

Sure thing! I get their newsletter 😊

Ah I see, good to know!

#7 “…our great works of art!” get over yourselves. Not even Picasso woulda called any of his current projects “great works of art”. He made paintings, and the Beastie Boys made music. It is the public who decides if it’s art or not, and if it’s great, at that.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I read that line as tongue-in-cheek.

You are more charitable than me.

Don’t look up Walking on Sunshine cause it will ruin your life.
Ifekinlovesauerkraut
Why, because there is no hidden meaning behind it?
motherfluffer
No cause it’s the saddest story I’ve heard
motherfluffer
Oh you know I got Dancing in the Moonlight mixed up with the sunshine one. Moonlight story is sad.

#2 Hayseed Dixie covers "Walk This Way": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCtJwupHwww (bluegrass, with cameo by Steven Tyler)

Somehow this rendition makes that song even creepier.

Or after Steven Tyler getting a teenager he "adopted" pregnant and then forcing her to have an abortion.

Candygram for Mongo would be nice
SpeakerToLampposts
Rush named a song "Anagram (for Mongo)". But it's actually about anagrams (or subsetnagrams or something); the "for Mongo" part is just a joke.
TheRicM
Cool, thanks for the info!

Just because you only listen to *new* music doesn't mean the older songs aren't still valuable. Think of every single person who listens to classical music. Hell, even the Nutcracker is "old" and people still line up to see it every holiday season.
ThomasTheWankEnglne
classic rock from the 70s 80s and into the 90s will be like classical music for all time. people will keep discovering it

Really? Are you serious?

I know for sure that Aerosmith and Beastie Boys still see rather regular radio play.

All of these songs are also used in movies and TV shows.

I was in Boy Scouts, and we sang this song long before it got popular. Honestly, I'm glad they took out the getting dismembered and dying part of this song when they made it for small children, but that was the funny part of the song.

Are you like 8 or do you just have the most narrow, boring musical taste in all world history?
