I always called myself an agnostic and an apathetic. I didn't KNOW if God existed, and I didn't CARE. As I've gotten older and seen the physical and emotional wreckage caused by religion I am solidly atheistic and DO care that people are so besotted with the entire concept of their god, they harm SO many other people.

Definition of atheist is wrong. A theist believes in god, or gods. Putting "a" in front of the word means they do not believe in gods. It is not the same as claiming no gods exist.

It's not unusual to hear people say that they believe "a god" exists without actually knowing what sort of god that might be and I think that's pretty close.

I wish there was a good word for antireligion. God (the singularity) and religion are two different things, I think more 'atheists' are disbelievers of religion, not gods.

Most of the words to describe them are derogatory and often synonymized with terms that associate them with evil or folly. That is because religious people have defined language for us. So, they call them heathens, pagans, savage, uncivilized, unbelievers. Perhaps the most neutral term is irreligious, but as you sounds it out, it also comes across as hostile, alliterating irritation, a word you would rather keep out of your tongue. The best things you can do is to claim or invent a new good word

I don’t like that this uses ‘god’ in the singular as though monotheism is the only thing. I don’t believe gods exist, and the christian god is one of the MANY MANY gods I do not believe exist.

I agree that too many discussions approach religion centered on the three majors, but I would contend that god is used as a placeholder in these situations for simplicity, ease, and save time instead of specifying god/gods every time you mention the belief in any supernatual entity, if you deny the existence of there being even one, youre also ruling out more than one.

I also hate the way Cristians pretend that their made up playground god is the default god or the best god or whatever. Like “My god is so cool, he can do everything and anything and is the most powerful of all gods…”
I’m more willing to believe that Thor, a limited god who’s kinda a dumbass and enjoys crossdressing, exists than some mythical perfect being that created the universe.
The Monotheistic perfect at-everything mary sue god is less likely to exist than any given Pantheon member.
