I had a robotic laparoscopic hernia repair (umbilical, belly button went from an innie to an outie... and worse) 5 years back with a 'DaVinci.'
They wheeled me in to the surgical suite to see a multi-armed giant robot praying mantis hanging over me.
"Well, that's not intimidating at all," I said.
"Ha, yeah, we like to call it Skynet!" and they knocked me out.

Didn't you notice the bandolier of tips? If you're only using one or two types, you can load up spares to swap with between cats while the others are sanitized which I'm assuming is a high temp bath.

Once for work I shot some video of a DaVinci robot in action. Those things are insane. It reminded me of something out of the Matrix, meanwhile a surgeon is sitting at a VR desk in the corner controlling the thing.
Also it doesn't have to be local. They can set it up so a surgeon on the other side of the world can perform the surgeries.

Yeah, when I worked at a hospital, people didn't understand why I was so furious every time computers got infected with shit and cut their Internet access. OR computers were knocked offline and even bricked due to some of the early malware. "So? Just reimage them." "If they go down during surgery, that's a patient's life on the line. Some are remote surgeries, others are surgeries done with video consultation. THEY CAN'T GO OFFLINE."

Don't know if I'd want a computer IN the OR unless absolutely needed. They have fans, collect airborne particles, aren't easy to clean, blah, blah, blah. The mouse/keyboard alone must have a bazillion germs on them.

Tablets have few of those problems. Keeping the thing clean can be done with a disposable transparent cover over the entire device. Probably want to downclock it some for thermal reasons, though.

As for the robot itself, it is made to be used in a surgical/sterile environment. The DaVinci robot has plastic sleeves that cover most of the moving bits. And the robot is controlled by handles like in OPs post, not a mouse and keyboard.

TBH this could be done with pure embedded control no OS at all, only reason to have one would be for remote operations but these may not be designed for that.

I work in healthcare, and ages ago we had an interesting (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) presentation about such machines. It started with simple benefits, less people in the OR, easier sterile field. Then it zoomed out. A specialist in a different hospital could do the operation, and so on.
They then showed a tropical beach. "Or you could do your work from here" The crowd liked that.
"Or the people already living there could do it for a lot less money" Crowd didn't like that nearly as much :D
