It isn't necessary about anti-consumerism, it is more about being in love. She is saying that the person is her only focus. I have been luck enough to have experienced this, & if you have it live in it appreciate it while you can, that level doesn't usually last for ever. If you have love, cherish it
Was in my local comic shop the other day. A big 40k tourney was going on. The owner played this song. It was the loudest, most emphatic, heartfelt "BOOOOOOOOOOOOO" I have ever experienced. Was a good day.
The bitching about it starts months before anyone plays it, and lasts months after. People are fucking idiots, and no one stupid enough to whine about that song on imgur is going to respond to a simple thing like logic or reason.
When it's comes to publishing/songwriting royalties, Christmas songs are an absolute cash cow. Once it's a hit, it's a hit forever and will get played into the ground for 2 solid months every year. It's amazing songwriters don't focus on only writing Christmas music.

I love that song. I wanna hippopotamus is another banger.

I recommend replacing it with "1-800" by Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol

More Band-Aid!!!
Hecticombrage
They're playing all Christmas songs too much. They should be limited to the last day of Advent through to the end of Christmas Day.

I love your deep personal hate for this. I mean, I hate it too, but you said it so much better.

Somebody is a cranky critter this morning.
REOJackwagon
Run dmc Christmas in Hollis, or dropkick murphys the seasons upon us

Are good alternatives

Honestly I don't even listen to the lyrics anymore.
Helixninja333
But there's the problem, Christmas has become entrenched in consumerism. Anything that tries to claim it isn't feels like a bald faced lie.
Escapist83
Because they're playing it too much.
fiddlewheelx
Way too fucking much.
At least play a Vaporwave version once in a while
Mxlespxles
For fuckin REAL. Just any variation so it's not just the same sonic barrage every single goddamned day
Icanhearwhatyouresayingandtheanswerisno
Like, waaaaaaaaaaaay too much
PileOfWalthers
Stay away from grocery stores and malls and don't tune into radio stations playing it?
TheSlouchOfBethlehem
I guess that's why I never hear it
PileOfWalthers
Same. Only time I hear about it is people whining about it.
TheSlouchOfBethlehem
Right? I'd recognize it if I heard it, but there's no way I could pull the melody out of my head by myself.

She earns $2.5-3 million in royalties EVERY YEAR.
