She can waterbend

Edit: lots of salt in the comments about her being a mage/sorceress and not a bender. I think a lot of people missed the "honorary" part of "honorary avatar" and I figured "airquotes" weren't needed when I said "waterbend." Regardless, she "mAnIpUlAteS ElEmEnTs" and it's badass. Chill.

Lethally

He got what was coming to him. AND SERIOUSLY GODDAMN GIRL

Show this to Azula

Bending is a martial art. She is using somatic components for arcane spells. She is actually manipulating the fabric of reality.

The fight with Dracula was insane

this makes me want to play darksouls and do a hex build

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That chick has zero chill, except when she uses it to kill monsters.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TV show on Netflix.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, I see that dude running on the ice graduated top of the class at the Prometheus School of Running Away!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

same thought went through my mind

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then a bunch of ice went through his

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

HAH

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Loved it al except for the ice part. Creating water and ice out of nothing feels like cheating.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really wish there was more lore to the magic and monsters of the series. A wiki, a book anything.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How about an entire game series?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I dunno about this making her an avatar. But I will say I’m a watch the shit outta this. Thanks man.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

time for you and netflix to spend some time together!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, we don't really have the authority to do that here

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I have a thing for bookish redheads.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't we all

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ok, ill go watch this...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fucking savage

7 years ago | Likes 217 Dislikes 1

and as a practitioner i loved how they established that there was a clear difference between superstition and real proper magic

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Agree, for similar reasons. Also the clear point the writers made about churches in the first season. Those woke bastards!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not quite sure if they actually make the difference between magic and science, though. I remember her saying they were quite similar.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well yeah that distinction is a tad more muddled

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And more rule 34 please.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Except God hates her.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

The whip looks like shit.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Na that woman is a Mage, a Spell-Cannon, and a total badass.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

And she can pee in a bucket and tell you it's beer!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Avatar Stans are getting as insufferable as Harry Potter Stans.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I would say she's an elemental mage, not an avatar.

7 years ago | Likes 712 Dislikes 7

Shhhh, sweet dreams now.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

One man's elemental mage is another man's avatar.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If we open the door for this. A certain Mr Robot was an elemental Avatar vampire in Twilight

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So she just needs to get frozen in ice for a 1000 years and she evols to avatar status?!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Black mage is a lie

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

But why??

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What I meant was, elemental magic users aren't just "avatars" who "bend". So, a magic user is just an Avatar I guess based off this.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Isn't that the same thing? Both control the elements.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Bending is martial arts and spiritual training. Magic is a studied manipulation of energy as an active science. Only similar based on looks.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The difference would be that of an elemental monk using chi to control elements and and Arcane caster manipulating the fabric of reality.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Thank you.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Thank you.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

s1 was so good :(

7 years ago | Likes 108 Dislikes 6

Is it correct that S1 only gave 4 episodes?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

correct.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah started season 2 and just didn't like it. Too much dialogue that doesn't go anywhere

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 19

I felt the same way. Really should have been more monster slaying in season 2.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Season one felt that way but it was only 4 episodes so it went by quicker

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Vampire court politics were a complete waste on MacGuffining Isaac into th story. Was super forced.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It gets so much better as time goes on.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Watch till the end, worth it IMHO.

7 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

First half of season 2 is meh. The last part is great, though. Well worth it.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Atleast watch season 2 for the final fight.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

A sorceress, yes, but not a bender.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Benders bend stuff, not create it from nothing. Sypha is a black Mage, not a water bender, seeming as she creates ice frok nothing but magic

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Depends on the setting. In D&D (FR) you basically bend the wave and pull on it for magic. Others use the power of elements around them

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

God, this is such a good fucking show!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Remember when wizards cast spells? Like Sypha from Castlevania? And not Aang from The Last Airbender?

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

Yeah, looks more like a high level evocation wizard.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Nah bro. Sypha is clearly a Bard. College of Knowledge and her spell choice is just evocation heavy, no supports

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Clearly not. She is a sorceress. Lots of go boom spells, no preparation.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only wizards need prep time though. And her job is that of a bard. Collect and tell stories

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Writing magic-users is difficult, as magic without established rules goes by its own logic so the mage can do anything seemingly at random.

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

A solid magic system is *critical* to a good fantasy series, imo. Without one it turns into a deus ex machina all the time.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Depends on how it's used really. You can do mystic and unexplainable magic, but only as long as it doesn't get used to solve problems.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think the most essential ingredient is consistency. There's nothing consistent about Sypha's magic.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

yeah, from watching season 1, it felt like she could take on everything and everyone at once. 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 it also makes me question why there weren't more magic users in the story, but everybody believed in a God that didn't exist.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People hate magic. The people of grescit hated magic. Dracula's wife was killed for science they thought was magic. all that = fewer mages.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With the power Sypha proved capable of creating, I'd be surprised if some noble or other high power didn't see it the same way.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And again, the actual magic is real and there, while God's presence is nowwhere to be seen.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As far as the creatures Drac summoned say, God does exist. Just more along the old testament. "Ain't gonna help till you worship me right."

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now that you mention it, I think I recall something like that. Then yes, they exist. They just don't wanna do anything.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would be neat if in a 3rd season some humble village church gets shown to have divine protection. But don't know enough about the games if

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Master Braytak as Dracula

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

.. What? Does the same guy play both? Like Bra'tac of Chulak, from Stargate?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tony Amendola. Yup.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's actually really cool.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Teal'c (Christopher Judge) is Kratos in the new God of War game

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I knew that! That was also really cool.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What about airbending and earthbending?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

She airbends briefly in Episode 4, when she and Trevor are falling through the underground. She uses a gust of wind to break their fall.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And blood bending.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Does shedding a shit-ton of it count?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does for me!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She makes my blood bend

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't think we ever actually see Aang do that. Dunno about Korra, didn't watch all of LoK.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, Aang did take bending away from Ozai. In TLOK we learn that taking bending is a form of bloodbending. As for Korra, she only learns /1

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Bloodbending can produce the same effect likely by severing chi paths. The only way to do it permanently is via energy bending.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

/2 to resist bloodbending. What's interesting is how she prefers firebending in her fights even though it's not her "natural" element.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I actually really liked that. It makes sense, personality-wise, for her to prefer firebending.
