The benefit of having longer arms and legs

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

When/where does the web spew out?!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

This exact wall configuration was used this year at multiple indoor rock climbing establishments, a way to train for a world record at home

The gif that started too soon

If Japan wasn't shorter by a foot she would've won. Still very impressive from both ladies.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an average climber, yes, the japanese are world class in climbing, boldering and speed climbing but are sub- PAR in the dynamic stuff.

7 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 4

Except for Tomoa, who kicks ass at all of the above.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Do they get to practice the pattern of hand/footholds before the competition? Are there standard competition patterns?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

speed climbing only has a single route

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I see, thanks!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck, that's cool. They're really good!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The master ring on a harness is not for fall protection.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're clipped into the proper loops for fall arrest, idk what you mean by master ring.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They are not actually. The master ring is for belay not for arresting a fall. Never seen a master ring fail, but it's bad form.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohh I see what you're seeing. Ya dude, they must have reasons since it seems to be accepted in comp at that level.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Typically a dynamic belay like that has a much lower fall factor than a straight up belay, that might be why.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sure and it must orient the rope more effectively for speed. Lead climb comps probably clip in as normal.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone get them a action movie deal now!!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Beasted it.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The new assassins creed looks weird.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Beat me to it

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

man look at those thick shoulders

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How high is that? Im guessing 40-50 ft.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one on the left won because she’s taller

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

v

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Roller blades cross would be a way more watchable sport than this at the Olympics

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I knew the girl with the cute owl bag would win. Cute bags have magical powers.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mmmmm Japan

7 years ago | Likes 530 Dislikes 25

Those bleeding finger-tips tho; ouch ?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 2

I saw her first

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Nuked her twice

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Too soon.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Username almost checks out...

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Times when I'd pick tongue punch her fartbox for $500 alex.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Just be careful, and consider the grip strength.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mmmmm Danon.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She has blue owl powers!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How quick do you suppose either would take to get over the unclimbable border fence?

7 years ago | Likes 218 Dislikes 11

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I mean the current record on the replica portion built in Mexico is 45 seconds, unassisted.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I’m going with about half the time it took them to do this.

7 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 2

Not long enough for me to fry this egg.

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Ok I’ll be that guy.. this wall is literally designed to be climbed. Even the best climbers in the world aren’t climbing up a smooth wall

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 10

have you seen it? it's easily climbable. you know what else exists? ladders.

7 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 11

Are people downvoting you because they don't believe in ladders?

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

The wall is flat! Ladders aren't real! Wake up sheeple!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol “ladder deniers” next level antivaxers.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I bet you believe the Earth is round too. It’s obviously ladder shaped.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Ladders aren't real! More lies coming from the three dimensional lobbyists.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

but whyyyy?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gifs that start too soon.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One on the right could have added another second or so if she had the rope infront. Wouldn't get in her way as much

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

That’s Miho Nonaka. She’s primarily a bouldering specialist w 19 medals. But she finished top 5 in speed. She knows what’s up.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet she has never practiced with that method to compare...

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'm not denying it. But the amount if extra movement leads me to believe she's constantly hitting it, it's always in her way

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bet there is an arm only version of this sport somewhere. But this is really impressive.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The harnesses really take away from the excitement

7 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 15

All they need is a pool or a big foam pit at the base, get rid of the harness

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Unless there is a strap-on involved

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

That's the three-legged speed climb. Different event.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

so true, should be to the death instead, and just have it on deadly outdoor climbs with drones recording.

7 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Do you want ratings? Because that's how you get ratings.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or just over a very large, well placed pool filled with jello

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

maybe make the pool only big enough for 4 of the 6 total climbers?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Swing and a miss

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought the girl on the right was going to crush, based on her brawny arms.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is actually a new Olympic sport. Speed climbing. No I am not trolling or joking.

7 years ago | Likes 937 Dislikes 9

Good. Looks less stupid and is less dangerous than boxing.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The only joke about it is not separating the disciplines. Lead climbing and bouldering are a whole different skill set than speed climbing

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

They could only add one sport, so it was one, or all three as one. Sad really.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why are they rubbing the speed on their hands?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As long as we get husbands on the sidelines double fisting beers at 9 in the morning

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am looking forward to it

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The hand gribs are also randomly chosen with d&d dices

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't really get why anyone would be surprised? It's like, one of the basic activities in places with gravity? Run, jump, climb???

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You forgot throw.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh yep, throws good!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Olympic Committee "What else can we just make a sport, how about vaping next"

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 10

You shouldn't need to be. It's fucking hard to speed climb at that level. Check this out: https://youtu.be/e863Qr0jaYo

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

it’s no weirder than any other sport

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oral sex should be an Olympic sport.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Agreed. Scored by how many orgasms you can give a woman in the allotted time.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Speed climbing is ridiculously hard.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Asian chick with the diesel arms is cute

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Idk this looks awesome. Maybe it can replace speed walking because... dayum

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Break Dancing needs to be an Olympic Sport.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

I mean, it's been a legitimate sport for decades. I remember seeing it in x-games in the mid 90s

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like it requires a huge amount of athleticism.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No weirder than throwing a disk or jumping over hurdles i guess

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But powerlifting still isnt

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is an Interesting video on YouTube regarding this and how fast a human could potentially do it.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is a hell of a lot more understandable than speed walking

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thats good! It's great fun and anyone can become pretty good at it. It's great for your back and core

7 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 2

"anyone can become pretty good at it"....K

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

And arms and hands. My hands are small and my biggest fail point. This would be difficult for me.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Don't worry. They can become plenty strong still and your feet and core are more important in climbing than pure are strength.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Look into crack climbing. They could be your biggest assets

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Speed is a part of the combined climbing, that premieres in tokyo 2020. The athletes compete in boulder, lead and speed climbing.

7 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

They're doing lead and bouldering?! Dope.

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

That sounds interesting. I would watch that

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

iirc their rankings in each discipline is multiplied together to form final score. Lowest score wins.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

as in: if you place first, second and tenth, your score is 1x2x10 = 20.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Curious how you standardize it? Does it have a difficulty level plus execution? Multiple configurations makes scoring/records complicated.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well. Speed is the same route. Always. Same holds and placements. For men and women.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The only part not the same is the wall surface material/texture itself. But they’re looking at standardizing that across all competitions.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Boulder is scored by number of attempts. With bonuses for reaching a key point as well as making it in the first attempt (called a flash).

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Max points for completing the problem in 1 attempt. No falls etc. usually 4 problems per event. Topping all 4 first try w no falls is 100pts
