Your 3090 broke that panel out of spite, and as a warning not to try it again.
Would you believe that I actually broke the panel trying to put an RTX 2080 underneath the 3090, and that I succeeded?
VM w/ GPU pass-thru, mining, or something else? Just curious why two gpus (yeah I saw it's an old post)?

Taking the panel off, in my experience, lets more fresh air into the system, leading to greater cooling.
Yes, in cases with better design air pathways (like having mesh up front and up top), taking it off can reduce efficiency, but not here.
