All true. Nothing like an echo chamber stifle our own growth. The jock parallel is true and so ironic. We either grow emotionally and overcome our trauma, or we become our trauma

Wise would be good, what STEM lacks is common sense, not in the populist antivax sense, more not inventing existential threats against humanity sense.

hehe i find the term "common sense" to be somewhat of a misnomer. It is the sense of the Commons, and rarely wise.

How's "rational"? As in, it is rational to not invent yourself out of existence. Less lofty than "wise", but more accurate than "common sense".

Took my post-concussion brain a while to get it, but the penny just dropped lol .. yes rational a good midpoint that most people should rely on. At 60, I guess I've amassed enough experience to be somewhat wise in some respects, at least to those younger lollll sure don't feel like it.
I feel like instead that evidence-based decision making has been swamped with Steve Bannon doctrine: flood the zone with shit. I'm sensing tho that the flood has reached full tide, and is beginning to ebb.

heh, 42 here, and age is not necessarily mutually inckusive of reason. But it helps?
I too am hopeful. I do a lot of craft markets, and noting a rise in youth attendance of late (the kind of ppl one can have a mature convo with). Sadly cannot say same for many of my age bracket peers. Being chronically online does funky things to one's brain.
