The first time I ever heard that phrase was when playing Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines and I don't remember his name, Nosferatu dude, talks about how some other vampire wants him out of the picture so he wouldn't claim to be the prince or something. Then he says "funny thing is... I could care less". He would become prince, but if someone else wants it, he'd give it up. That's how interpreted it.
