Depending on your symptoms, you may want to try vagus nerve stimulation, which can be a lot easier than it sounds! Drinking extremely cold water can help (treat yoself to one of those amazing water bottles where ice lasts for literal hours) or take something frozen and put it between your boobs (sternum area). Leave it there for as long as you can handle/need. Pair it with making sure you’re breathing out for longer intervals than you breathe in for, it can def help.

A lot of the suggestions here are really great, but my inner monologue likes to really drive home things, so I started shushing it in my head like Dr Evil in the Austin Powers film and that really helped. Or just shout "shush!" whenever you're having unwanted thoughts. Just something that helped me stop things in their tracks before calming myself down with other techniques!

Activate the five senses anyway you can. Then inhale for four count - not deep. Hold for four count. Inhale deep two more counts then deeply exhale for 6 counts

Read "The Body Keeps The Score". Changed my life after 50+ years of PTSD. Talk therapy, meds, nothing helped me until I READ THIS BOOK.

Anxiety issues led me to anger and eventually prison. My coping mechanisms tend to small things. I have this weird thing where always spot Subaru cars and watching other people’s habits. I try to not think about the next thing I have to do.

I used to take TranquilX religiously for GAD, but it hasn't been available for months now.

Benadryl for attacks or foreseen situations you might get an attack. ask for hydroxyzine if you have a doctor. both meds work because antihistamine helps you when you are in that panic state, I forget why but it limits the distribution of panic chemicals from what I can recall atm. hydroxyzine is what I use.

Doxepin is the strongest antihistamine on the market, at least here in the states.

Find a meditational technique that's simple. I use a variation of the 3-2-1 technique by Jose silva. Takes about 20 minutes and panic attack is down to manageable levels.

I happened on a DBT therapist through a referral. Helped tremendously. Still with him after 3 years. Good days and bad days. But having tools like DBT is helping.

I've been reading a lot of mental health articles lately for some mini-breakdowns I've been having in the mornings at work. 2 ideas have helped me greatly: First engage the chatter in your mind like a scared child. Second, Engage your "subtle intelligence" by finding a spot to collect yourself and practice mindfulness through whatever means are effective for you. it takes me about 15-20 mins but this has been the most effective method for me lately.

Military Vet w/anxiety, PTSD, and diagnosed ADHD. Try breathing deep while observing 2 things you can see, smell, hear, and touch. I get anxiety attacks weekly and my psych showed me this and it really helps. When it gets really bad, leave the room and walk around or find a quiet spot to do this exercise.

Breathing in for 4 seconds, holding for 4 seconds, then exhaling for 6 seconds usually help me too.

I used to get anxiety attacks. I agree. Ground yourself. Anything you can notice- textures you can see/ feel, light, shadow, color, really engage any senses. Even noticing the anxiety sensation can help some. For prevention, try EMDR or ART, and try to keep general anxiety low. Mindful movement (I like stupid dancing), avoid the news, surround yourself with good vibes, pet therapy, deep breathing throughout day, yoga/tai chi, self-massage, binaural beats, visualization, exercise, eat well, etc.

This. Engaging your senses- i find hearing and touch to be the best for me- makes your mind come back to reality. Also valsalva maneuvers can help but don’t do those without your doctor saying it’s ok for you because they can cause fainting among other things. But when I start to panic and the senses ground exercise doesn’t help, I do a valsalva and that usually stops the adrenaline within a few minutes.

This. Also see a doctor if you can. I have anxiety, but it turns out my panic attacks are not panic attacks, it's a benign heart condition that's exacerbated by anxiety. Didn't start until I was 36. Valsalva maneuvers for me. Sitting on the ground or as low as I can and touching something textured, usually the ground/carpet, helps the anxiety.
