Could also be that the IP-stolen Ultramarines have suits sufficiently advanced enough to not have flammable atmosphere and filter the smoke.

It's specifically stated in the intro cinematic that the suit is "sealed and locked", I assume that the suits are normally sealed

I think it means sealed as in protection against environmental things, and locked as in he can't get out
