I was asked about the paint I was using on the cabinet. I took the little plate off the rear of the playfield, cleaned it up and had Home Depot color match it. The left edge o of the board has a fresh coat of paint on it and it is pretty much a 100% spot on match.
It took 2 or 3 coats over the course of a few days to get the color to be even for both the cabinet and backbox. I'm using cheap foam brushes and found that making long continues strokes to blend everything in worked best. The back piece was used for experimenting since it gets covered up anyway.
Lots of cabinet metal bits removed and tossed int a blasting cabinet. So this step here is a bit above what most home-brewers might have access to... There are small blasting cabinets you can get at Harbor Freight and such and end up with the same results.
Oh my back. My friend is... a short jewish man... and his cabinet is set up great for him, not so much for me. Took me over an hour to get everything blasted clean.
My high tech paint booth, using a rattle can of Rust-Oleum "Metallic Finish", did 3 or 4 light coats.
So I had cleaned and waxed this thing up but it still looked "blotchy". Then I find out the Rust-Oleum paint is conductive. I was ohm testing the other bits and with the paint on them, everything is a dead short. Well color me silver so I cleaned the plate and then sprayed it so now it has a much better even flat clean look about it.
Rattle can hammer paint used. When I did my Earthshaker, the coin door came out dark grey. So this time I put down a base of flat black in hopes the hammer paint would be more black... nope, same dark grey. It looks great, but I wish it was blacker... still very happy with how it turned out.
I found out you can purchase a kit to rewrap the coils... so before....
After. I washed the coil with cleaner and hot water, dried off and applied the new wrapper. New coil sleeve installed as well.
Inside going back together. I can't get the rest of the brackets and hardware installed until I put the new decals on the sides. Hopefully I can get all that done over the weekend.
