My Uncle experienced this with flooding this winter. Chunks of forest came down the river, and were deposited near his home.... And the same river took his entire lawn, 10 inches of turf and soil, leaving behind only fresh-scrubbed river rock below. When the floodwaters receded he no longer had river-front property, but lake-front. Nature is wild.
Their house used to be 6ft above water. Now it's less than 18 inches. Now they're building an earthen berm to hopefully stave off future flooding, and I'm helping to grow plants from native seeds that will help protect it against erosion. He's re-growing the lawn too, but I think that's just because he's a Baby Boomer and a house without a lawn is somehow deeply disturbing to him.
If it’s anything like things I’ve seen in the past, essentially trees growing on a floating bog. Which means they’re technically mobile and current affects them. Lake Chippewa is one that’s been posted here before, where tugboats have to move an “island” every year
