2020 has until now had a couple ups and downs for me so far. It started with my bf cheating on me and breaking up with me a few days later. Followed by my graduation a month later. At that point I already quit my old job for a new one, related to the field I graduated in. I was so happy for a new beginning, for being able to finally start a career and leave everything bad like my last relationship behind.
Today, a couple days before I was going to start my new job they dismissed me due to the financial crisis caused by Covid-19.
My current (old) job takes me in for another month and is happy for my support in their crisis, still I feel devastated. I probably have to find a new job in a situation where 50% of all the people in my town are searching for a job and I feel like looking forward to something means to just being disappointed in the end.
Thanks for letting me rant about my fucked up life though I'm sure there are people out there being in a worse situation.
PS: Send baby animal pictures if you'd like to cheer me up a bit. Thanks again!
FP-Edit: thank you all so much for the support (and baby animal pictures), it means a lot to me!

Kinda same here. New job doesn't know what to do with me cuz of corona. Old job is short staffed and let me get some hours in.
Rogahar
While it may suck in comparison, places like grocery stores and amazon are currently hiring like crazy to keep up with the rush. Worth >

> looking into as a stop-gap if you struggle finding something else.

Hopefully It’s just a speed bump! I’m sure it feels like a mountain, but hopefully with time you’ll see you’re on the right path! Good luck!

I'm in the same boat, currently in the UK on 2 year visa. 10 months in and on the same week I was suppose to move to Scotland for new job am
HeeyitsJade
Now moving back to New Zealand due to losing said job because of virus and not being able to risk staying without a job for however long
katseiko
I had two new job opportunities lined up. Both of them cancelled because of Corona.

Got let go from job and finally got hired at a new better job 3 weeks later. Was supposed to go in to get my gaming license 1/2
thesmellyviking1996
2/2 day before that interview Washington state closed all casinos. Now all these grocery stores won't hire me.

Finally got a salaried position myself with a $25,000 pay raise, it’s a breath away from being gone too.
TheOneMaerem
It sucks. The thing is that this concerns so many at the current state, still sucks personally
AeliusAliasX
I got a promotion, and was told id get a raise with it, a month in. But im not sure whats going to happen now.

Your life is great, you will have a new job when this blows over. And you have something to pay the bills now!
AskingTheRealQuestions
I'm between jobs. I left my old job just before shit hit the fan. No idea when I can start in my new one, they all have home office atm.
AskingTheRealQuestions
But I left a start up consumer loan bank (can't imagine a worse business to cope w/ this tbh) for a giant grocery chain, so that was lucky.
incomeing020
Same here I'm so worried :(

Right there with you, I had my papers all signed and sent in on Mar 7th, I graduate in May and poof all gone... things will get better for u

Pharmacies are hiring too. The front store if you've never worked in the pharmacy
TheOneMaerem
For you too! It has to get better. Maybe something better will come along. At least I hope so.

What field did you study?
DALLASLAVOWNER
you already have an in with the new company. Unless their business is going to be impacted long term (i.e. hotel, casino, cruiseline) 1/2
DALLASLAVOWNER
you already have an in. They will probably want to bring you in ASAP because you are cheaper than more experienced people they let go

"...due to Corona." Maybe try domestic beer? /s Not really funny, I guess. But maybe a smile somewhere...?
TheOneMaerem
I've never even likes Corona beer, maybe that's what angered it? *Giggle*
safireix
I definitely feel you on the idea that looking forward to something means being disappointed right now...
TheOneMaerem
Im sorry! If you need someone to talk to, feel free to chat me

Why didnt you just collect unemployment? If you signed the papers to be hired you would have qualified
CROWBARJ0NES
Not in Florida. Minimum 6 months employment with the company to file and qualify.
meauho
Qualification depends on state. Would not have qualified for normal unemployment in Texas
Syrpynt
Unemployment doesn't pay nearly enough to pay for modern bills/rent.
TheOneMaerem
Exactly. Also I worked in another field, way less payed than the new job would have. Therefore I'd get 1/3 of the new jobs payment. Sucks!
Syrpynt
Payout is also correlated to how long you worked at the last company. Ask me how I know. They offered me $80/month for the 1 year I worked.
TheThirteenthDoctor
Jesus how is that supposed to help anything...
Syrpynt
No clue, instead of accepting unemployment, I took a part-time warehouse job. This was back right before I returned to college in 2011.
