watched this video and when i put my hand near my eye my finger felt wet. realized i was actually tearing up. searched about him right away and found out this is from brazil at a clinic run by a vet named dayse ferreira. the dog didn't just have a hurt paw, they actually found a small treatable tumor and fixed him up completely. he even got flooded with adoption offers right after. wanted to share this heartwarming story with you all.

Earlier this week, an unexpected visitor made his way through the door of Dayse Ferreira's veterinary clinic in Brazil.
It was a sick and injured stray dog who came in search of help.
And that's exactly what he got.
Ferreira had just finished up with another client when she noticed the dog wander in — limping from a hurt paw. She and her colleagues were amazed to see that he'd taken the initiative to seek out their assistance all on his own. And he seemed to trust them immediately.
"When he came in, he put the injured paw forward, as if to say hello and to show that he was hurting," Ferreira told The Dodo. "We were surprised because he knew where to ask for help."
Ferreira didn't wait to welcome the poor dog in.
After giving the dog a quick examination, Ferreira found that his paw wasn't too seriously injured. But it was a good thing he'd visited the clinic for another reason.
She'd discovered that the pup also had a small tumor and was covered in fleas. Fortunately, both were treatable.
The dog was given a cleansing bath, and Ferreira put him on medication. But more than that, by seeking out help, the lonely dog found something even more.
He found hope.
Word has since spread about the vet clinic's surprise new patient, and adoption offers have come pouring in for when the time is right. His days as a lonely, unloved dog are officially over. And he seems to know it.
"He doesn't even look sick. He just is so excited to be around people who care about him," Ferreira said.
The most admirable thing is that he came on his own. His intelligence is beautiful," Ferreira said. "I'm sure he will find a home that will welcome him and receive him with all the love he deserves.

People forget that most animals are as smart as a 1~2yo human. They have a different type of intelligence just due to how they interact with the world. Like babies shoving stuff in their mouths, the primary method of contact with things is sniff and taste. “If you judge a Dolphin by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” and people will believe it also

Look at something near you- your monitor, mousepad, phone case- something that you've never put in your mouth. You already know what it'd feel like on your tongue, don't you?

1/ Exactly this, people massively underestimate animals intelligence, because they judge them by success at accomplishing things like their own goals, instead of trying to understand what the animals goals are. If you carefully watch dogs, they act strategically in ways that are incredibly complex constantly. I give my blue heeler complex puzzles and tasks to get food, and I've yet to find one that was too hard for her to figure out.

I remember a nature documentary where a pack of wild dogs not strays. The alpha would start to chase the prey. The pack would continue it while the alpha took a short cut to head off the animal. That took planning and some communication to pull off. Also scientist belive they have seen wild dogs vote to see if they want to go on a hunt. If the alpha said no but the others said yes they would still hunt. But it took less votes to win for whatever side the alpha was on.

I always say this. Dogs are so much smarter than we give them credit for. They have learned to successfully communicate with a completely different species, being unable to vocally learn that species’ language. They’re great
