Lipid layers and mRNA, still -20C storage. Good job Moderna.

Guys, you were the first ones. But -70 C. That's colder than in... some really cold place.

Entering first gene therapy vaccine. So using a virus to enter the gene from another virus, like inception style.

J&J also trying the old (new) GT game. Still solid protection.

Russians bombing the immune response with two different adeno serotypes.

Also a valid strategy to get a response, just attach Spikey-boy and boom!

Talking about old school Salk, here's Sinopharm with inactivated corona.

I thought I did these guys already?

But hey. Really it does not matter which vaccine you take, the immune response is triggered and you will get protection from severe COVID-19, newer variants or even the disease. I like those odds, sign me in!

What do the dollar signs represent over the flags? How much it costs to produce the vaccine?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

6 per shot astra and 30 per shot pfizer if I remember right

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was wrong, 19.50 for pfizer, $15 for Moderna's shot, $16 for Novavax's program, $10 for Johnson & Johnson's vaccine and $4 for AstraZeneca's

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And here we're gonna be able to book our first shots in the summer, then have a second shot after 4 months...

getting my first shot on thursday. i'll let you guys know if i suddenly start liking microsoft edge

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Got mine Thursday, and found myself buying an xbox controller sat. I don't even own an xbox! I kid.. needed it for no man's sky.

Easy to understand explanation from XKCD https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/mrna_vaccine.png

The protein covered nanoparticles is interesting. Literally viral training dummies!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's amusingly direct. "We could teach the body to make these things that kill the virus, OR, we could just do it ourselves."

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Issue is more in the manufacturing and keeping them separated. Not so easy in large scale.

5 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

Does it need an adjuvant? 99.9% sure the Adenovirus and mRNA do not.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yes. My question is whether it’s as good at producing a strong T cell response rather than just antibodies. Might affect long term immunity.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would imagine so. It's still a cool technology that may allow for vaccines for things we can't easily vaccinate for.

Just got my 2nd modena today. Now my YouTube algorithm is only showing big tittie anime. My coworker had similar symptoms

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Description unclear. Do you have a link? For science! :D

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think your pervy coworker hacked your youtube account bro.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Genuinely interesting

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Bit outdated, I'm afraid. Several recent studies have shown different results in efficacy and effectiveness against mutated strains.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Do you have a link to the more recent studies?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Couldn't find a recent comparisons I'm afraid. It's small things, like Pfizer efficacy is at 91% but seems to protect against variants etc.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had my first Pfizer. Everyone I know had an easy time. Not me. My arm ached for a week. I felt crappy the next day. So tired all week.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Swollen lymph nodes and a sore throat all week. Ugh. I’m still getting the 2nd shot though.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t know. A guy from high school 30 years ago says not to trust any of them. And he’s only been to jail twice.

5 years ago | Likes 547 Dislikes 1

My dad's friend's wife who has no education doesn't trust them.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My mom who reads facebook said you can't trust the any of the mRNA stuff because they tested it on animals and they died shortly after.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

They died you say? I need to book an appointment asap

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was sent something saying that both the virus AND the vaccines are bioweapons. ?‍♂️?‍♂️

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am still trying to figure out how Biden is both an idiot and an evil genius AND how masks don't do anything except restrict oxygen.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well an orange POS once said Biden would "hurt God." So if Biden can do that, things like simultaneously being an idiot and genius, and

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

changing physics so that masks obstruct oxygen for some people would be mere child's play.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know about God (at least in this case), but Turnip hurt my head thousands of times, so there is that.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Getting my second shot April 21st, Moderna!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow Lubach wasn't joking. Johnson & Johnson one is Dutch, not american.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Before you get too hung up on the different efficacy rates, Vox does a nice segment on why they aren’t really comparable:

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So how long do they last? I haven’t seen anything that predicts this.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

No way to tell... They are only half a year old. And it mainly depends on new mutations popping up.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Pfizer says "at least 6 months " at the present. It's likely much more, but they can lock that number down with data so far.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Sorry, no link. I got the Pfizer, so I looked it up one night, weeks ago. I also read it shows protection from B1.1.7 as well.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If everyone got the vaccine as soon as they could, given current supply, it won't matter. Problem is anti-vaxxers are mutation breeders

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have read that it is comparable to immunity after an infection--it depends.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think there's a practical way to speed up the reduction in protection, so, I guess we'll find out when it happens?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've seen at least 6 months but nothing certain.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

My understanding with that measure is it has only been in circulation that long, so purely based on observation.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My parents in law were told 3 months - Pfizer vaccine

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tiny octopus wonders if your in-laws got the vaccine three months after it was released.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think the were vaccinated in January

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That may have been the most they could support with clinical data at the time, but the real number will be a lot higher.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Si far they’re all 100% efficient in avoiding hospitalizations and death.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

@op What do the $$$ mean? Public investment, cost per dose, ..?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

19.50 for pfizer, $15 for Moderna's shot, $16 for Novavax's program, $10 for Johnson & Johnson's vaccine and $4 for AstraZeneca's

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm curious about future maintenance. We'll eventually need boosters. How will that be handled? I got Pfizer. Will I need to seek out a...

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

You should be able to use any effective vaccine as a booster, since the goal is triggering the immune response. Which vaccine you take 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 only changes how effective the trigger is in that instance, and doesn't typically affect future immunizations.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They don't have enough time/data for research on that because until recently much of the population wasn't vaccinated. At least 6 months. ?

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pfizer booster or will I be able to get any booster? I'm sure the smarter people working on this will figure it out but I'm curious.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

u could use any

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

so the "active ingredient" in all of these is the spike protein. Any shot should be able to boost the response.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

(I'm not a doctor)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

First dose in 2 days!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Novavax one is a bit confusing. Treat me like I'm five if you can explain it?

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

If i could choose, I would grab that. Unfortunatly, you don't get to choose and the astrazeneca is cheaply stockpiled everywhere.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Novavax = synthetic spike protein, Moderna and Johnson = body makes spike protein, sinopharm = pieces of virus with spike protein

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Great Explanation.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Instead of building genuine covid proteins in either a covid virus or using your own cells, that one injects synthetic proteins directly.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

(unless I misunderstood badly. I am not a mircobiologist or immunologist)

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep. Direct presentation to immune system. Needs quite a load of proteins.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just remember they are all reporting different methodologies, so the numbers aren't comparable - one is made by a university for no profit.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Got my second dose of Moderna today. My arm is sore but no symptom otherwise.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

IIRC if you have relatively no reaction from the 2nd dose, that means if you got covid you'd likely have been in trouble.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was good till 7am next morning after 2nd dose, then felt cold and achy all over for 2 days. More unusual for my age at 66.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nice. Wife got her 2nd on a Friday, felt like shit with aches, tired and fever. But 100% fine Sunday.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm excited for my 2nd dose of Pfizer in 20 days. My first yesterday only feels like I've been punched on the arm.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would like several of all of them please

5 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Ha ha ha what would happen to you I wonder? Super protected or ded can you OD from too many vaccines?

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I spoke to an immunologist about it and she cautiously said it shouldn't hurt you, might help boost immunity, but ask an MD.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Didn't say I would take them all at once.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Well the government paying

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Enough of anything will kill you. The effects of some can be unpleasant so imagine at best you'd feel shitty for a few days.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I don't think much if any info exists for interactions of course.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey! Johnson &Johnson is actually Jansen and it's a Dutch developed and made vaccine!

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I had heard of Jansen in Swedish news but hadn’t looked into it. I was wondering why it wasn’t mentioned, so thank you for clearing that up!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The mother company is based in the US so of course they're very eager to call the vaccine American... ;)

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I know, it annoys me caused it read made by Dutch scientist and only gets bottled there and they claim it ?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm not that patriotic of a dutchman, but that claim ticks me. I know that it doesn't matter who made it, but credit where it's due, right?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

100% agree!

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Turns out some are allergic to the new coating on the Pfizer and moderna ones.... like me... 12 days of hives. But still immune!

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Slight rash on my arm from Moderna. Gone in about 3 days.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How long did that take to kick in from injection time? (getting 1st Pfizer friday)

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Got my first done finally today. 5G works great!

5 years ago | Likes 657 Dislikes 4

My friend is really stupid and doesn’t get it. Can some one explain it to my “friend.”

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Conspiracy about vaccines and bill gates attempt to install microchips in ppl yadda yadda

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looking forward to the 2nd shot and 10G

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

25G. Multiply

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I went and got a Zune and loaded it up with Dolly Parton's greatest hits!

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Had mine yesterday. Just wait till you get through the night and wake up with a really strong pain in your arm to OWN THE LIBS

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Got mine on Saturday! Signal is clear, and my lesbian batsignal is blazing.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm still waiting for the autism to kick in so I can go to Vegas and clean house Rain Man style and retire early.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I got my first Pfizer today. They scheduled my next for four weeks away instead of three, which I find odd, but, here's to hoping it works.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Congratulations! In the UK it's 12 weeks between doses. It seems to be working okay, so a 4-week gap between your doses should be just fine.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like how the nanobots go straight to the pecker.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Dammit, they just gave me 5Gs instead of 5G signal. *Sad money noises*

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I got my first Moderna and now I feel better know I’m getting one of the better vaccines.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same here J&J gave me a huge boost in mobile connection in remote areas!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Got my first today too! Tracker is apparently buggy though. Appointment to fix in 28 days...

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Got my first today. Took my body a min to adjust but I think it connect to bluetooth now

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That was really funny. Laughed hard.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But have you turned gay yet, or possibly into a gay frog?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have this glow to my personality now.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My wifi works so much better

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Glad I ain't the only one making chip and wifi jokes when I hear someone get the vaccine.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice, my injection site is now a wireless charger

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since getting my vac I’m hearing the macOS start sound when waking up in the morning. Would have preferred Linux. Hoping for Jailbreak soon.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got my moderna 1 on Saturday. Today I had to rma my phone.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got my 1st J&J on Friday and it was awful. They tell me the 2nd one is worse which I am NOT looking forward to.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you sure it was J&J? I thought that one was single dose?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My bad, Pfizer was the one I got. I was just talking to a coworker about his j&j shot and I got yhem mixed up. My brain is fucky lately.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am now unusually compelled to buy a Zune.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And direct line to Bill Gates!

5 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

All i got where some weird sex dreams about Billy boy. Does it mean i should get Windows 95 upgraded?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My Windows 10 update was pushed out on the same day as my first shot.. Coincidence?

B.1.351 my bad

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

B.1.135 doesn't land till October. Man that's a crazy month for 2021! Don't worry though, the dinosaurs return with nanotech to save y'all.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Preliminary data show that BioNTech/Pfizer is 100% effective against B1.351 variant (with a 95% confidence interval of 53%-100%)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you live in the US, we have all 3 known extra strains from around the world, plus we've made two new ones! So there are 1 plus 5 mutation

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Luckily I do live in Germany

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Out there now.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Given your base of anti-vaxxers I'm sure you'll make more soon too. They really concern me and I'm in bloody England.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

The "vaccines cause autism" movement started in England. My kid was diagnosed with autism before that was debunked and I didn't believe it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was a 'concerned mother' movement about combined MMR vaccine specifically, not vaccines on the whole, that's mainly an American thing.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Covaxin is coming as a nasal spray

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Got sauce for that? If it winds up being offered in the US, I'd seek it out. I'd like to know more.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Link isn’t the best. Google Covaxin intranasal

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that just COVID itself rebranded? Because that's already spread by nasal sprays.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Careful, efficacy aren't measured the same. e.g. Pfizer only counted "symptomatic", while Sinopharm counted all positive COVID tests.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

The inflated effectiveness rating on Pfizer explains why it has a much higher hospitalization rate than expected compared to alternatives.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

So far every vaccine has eliminated fatalities, severe cases and transmission. Even a 'failed' vaccination gives valuable protection.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Pfizer's data says it has not eliminated fatalities/severe cases (97% reduction is not 100%). They reduce but do not eliminate transmission.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well... "may reduce". A far cry from "eliminate". Wear your masks.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please keep wearing masks even if you're vaccinated. Helps keep others wearing theirs long enough to maybe beat this thing.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sino has been massively exaggerated in efficacy, both for PR reasons (China as usual), and so they can flog it to other countries

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

OP is a China bot. Ignore them

Sinopharm =/= Sinovac.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

True, BBC linked me across from a Sinopharm article, I'm tired and didn't notice the switch in subject

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In-person discussions with someone deeply involved with NHS vaccines. I don't know what their sources were or if they're public.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Unless your someone is Fauci, it doesn't beat real world data. Actually scratch that, empirical data beats appeal to authority.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I agree, I just posted something. I don't know where they got their info but they'd not have that view unless it were concrete. It's not >

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Interesting that the efficacy varies so widely. I wonder if there's a way one could request a specific product.

5 years ago | Likes 121 Dislikes 3

Not the case here in LA, but I was lucky to get the Pfizer.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You can’t directly compare the efficacy rates. J&J was tested on both the Brazilian and SA variants and at a time when infection rates were

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

higher. A good video on it: https://youtu.be/K3odScka55A

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So far Pfizer-BioNTech seems very effective even against variants, even the South African one.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I scheduled mine, they asked me if I had a preference, so it probably depends on location.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The variation is due to where they test it. More ppl in community have covid highrr chance test subjects will come in contact with it. Only

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Way to test it without waiting for community transmission would be to purposefully infect test subjects which is not ethical

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So even these reported efficacy is not necessarily 'true' but it's what they got based on results of the trials. Likely change as more ppl

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are vaccinated and see how many become infected from there

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The efficacy rates are not really comparable. Vox does a nice segment on it: https://youtu.be/K3odScka55A

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Trials were at different times, in different places. Also efficacy isn't the best measure. Just get whatever you can ASAP.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Getting my FIRST tomorrow. Heckin nervous, but still going. For Dolly!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heck yeah! I'm getting the J&J tomorrow. Do it for Dolly, do it for your family, do it for whatever, just do it!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve heard the efficacy is based on each companies trial results. It’s not a comparison between each vaccine.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Though, it would be interesting to trial them against eachother.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s wonderful that it’s over 50% let alone 70 and above. Don’t worry too much about which one you get.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Whatever is available is what you get. I think in most locales it's only 1 or 2 products.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the UK we are given what is available on the day at the Vaccination Centre, mine was the AstraZeneca two weeks ago.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's fairly misleading because they were tested at different peaks and dips of infection rate. All will keep you off the vent or worse.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

I had Pfizer thru my employer and aside from my arm being sore for a few days on the first shot no real side effects.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The point is not to die from the disease and to get well faster to slow the spread. From the trials, every vaccine achieved that.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The best vaccine right now is the one you're offered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3odScka55A

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

That's efficacy against getting Covid, they are all 100% effective at preventing by hospitalization and death . they should say this more

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can look them up by which place is giving that vaccine and schedule your vaccine there.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They are all effective: https://youtu.be/K3odScka55A

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are. Some people have a preference for which one they want. I didn't want the Johnson & Johnson since trials have shown it to be less

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Effective. Other people may want it because it's only 1 shot instead of 2. My sister wanted the Moderna. Now instead of just getting what

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You get (in most places), you can look them up by type and see where it's being given near you. If that gets more people to get them, good!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got Moderna (didn’t choose) but I like that J&J was tested on Brazilian and SA variants and at a time when infection rates were much

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

higher. Almost gives you more confidence in it. Pfizer & Moderna may have had similar efficacy if they had the same trial periods and

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The site I used to sign up Mom here in Arizona said that it was the Janssen vaccine, but didn't specify when I signed up my brother. Mom

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

had me call and enquire. They said Moderna. She had me drive them half an hour each way, she took my brother in, and asked to be put on a

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

wait list. Then I drove them back and they made a second trip.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The state I'm in is doing drive through clinics and they let you know ahead of time which one it is.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm in Oregon and they dedicate days at the fairgrounds for specific vaccine. So you pick your vaccine by selecting the day it's offered.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm also in Oregon, and we have pop up tents outside various pharmacies, don't even have to get out of your car in most cases! Neat as heck

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As far as I'm aware, pretty much everywhere it's "take what you can get" for now.

5 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 2

I am happy to just be able to get it. I have family elsewhere (me = us, them = mexico) and they can't get any.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely this. All of the main vaccines reduce your chances of serious illness, hospitalisation and death by more than 99%.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's far more important to get something in everyone than it is to quibble about individual virus efficacy rates

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Here in mid-Michigan, we have a choice between Pfizer / BioNTech and J&J through Ingham Co. Health Dept.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But also the those high level points are not reflective of the full picture. I know for the ones in the US, they are all highly efficacious.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Many people I know have gotten the choice though. I chose Johnson and Johnson.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Without being too specific, where are you located?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mid Atlantic, US

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Why JJ? I specifically didn't want that one

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Single dose so I’m immune a full month earlier and just as good as the rest and has been tested against the new strains and performed well.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Different populations, ages and exposures. It gets really complicated when thousands are tested.

5 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

Do you know anything about the different adjuvents used in the vaccines?

Could also be in regards to the testing done. I vaguely recall something like the J&J vaccine being more effective/higher efficacy>

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

after the trial periods ended. Something like immunity ramps up over time where as the other vaccines are 2-dose high-efficacy. Not sure >

why I vaguely remember that though, so it could be false, but I vaguely recall it.

You can't directly compare the efficacy numbers, they mostly vary due to trial conditions. In the UK the Oxford and Biontech/Pfizer are both

being widely used. The data so far indicate they have almost identical real world efficacy despite the apparent differences.

Oxford/Astrazeneca was 73-99% effective, Pfizer/Biontech was 76-91%. These figures were efficacy after a single dose.

That's my question. I had my 1st shot 2 weeks ago. It's the moderna vac. Wondering if there's any protection in the interim?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pfizer said they are seeing 80% efficacy after 2 weeks. Modern a is theoretically “similar”. I’m sure moderna numbers will be coming soon

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's some. First couple of weeks after is basically nothing, then it rises. Most people are around 80% after 4 weeks.

If every human gets one of these vaccines now, the virus should die off a cross the globe and then we can target the remaining hot spots

Sadly only the richer countries have access, and have dumb people that actually refusing to receive it.

America: Hold my beer.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I really don’t understand why rich countries aren’t shipping tons of vaccines to Brazil and SA to quell the variants.Very short-sighted

The clinics around here ONLY have Moderna. Otherwise I'd request Johnson&Johnson and get it done in a single dose

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

I am scheduled for second dose of pfizer... I'd rather have 2 shots and be more protected.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

It doesn’t necessarily mean you are “more” protected. You can’t directly compare the efficacy rates. Vox does a good segment on it:

I'm getting my JnJ tomorrow!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Moderna is better.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

You can’t directly compare efficacy rates. A good video that explains why: https://youtu.be/K3odScka55A

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly, J&J was tested on both Brazilian and SA variants and at a time when infection rates were higher, so I’d be pretty confident in J&J

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

J&J is being reserved for homeless in my state because of “the inability to find them a second time” which is slightly unfair imo.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 12

If they have the capacity to go once I think they would be able to go twice but, I still got moderna and they deserve it to so I understand

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

Homeless grt moved around against their will and could be walking distance the first time but not the second. Also, everytime a homeless

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

person has to go, they leave their only possessions, and possibly pet, exposed and unprotected.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure, provided the police don't force them out of their encampment between doses, and no other common problems befall them. You're naïve. :(

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

J&J is not “worse”. You can’t compare the efficacy rates: https://youtu.be/K3odScka55A

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What? I just want the chance of only needing one shot. Which is why I put it here. Under this thread

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh. I guess I didn’t put it in the thread I thought I did

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but according to this, Moderna outshines J&J by a ton

5 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

You can’t really compare efficacy rates: https://youtu.be/K3odScka55A

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All the vaccines available in the US are 100% effective in preventing hospitalizations, which is great.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

When J&J was tested, variants were prevalent and infected population was over double the recorded cases of infections from the Moderna test.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Also, J&J was tested on both Brazilian and SA variants and at a time when infection rates were higher, so I’d almost be more confident in

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the J&J vaccine. But really, they’re all effective. I just got my 2nd dose of Moderna.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Trust me I’m definitely getting it. Pfizer#2 in 7 days. it’s just hard to look at ‘% effective’ and not compare

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can't directly compare these numbers. They're too dependent on how the trial was run.

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 5

More specifically, where and when.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And who.

People have been saying that but I can't find a reputable source. Lots of media outlets but no medical professionals have confirmed it
