My dad was lucky enough to be born in that few year span where he legally isn’t on the draft list. He never enlisted in any branch of the military or anything of the like. He believes that we should have mandated military service.
This sums up the thinking of many selfish idiots, including MANY of our leaders.

Lots of high school seniors right now looking at no future. Can't afford college. Retail jobs won't pay for an apartment let alone transportation. Foster kids are literally thrown into the street when they turn 18. Home schooled kids finding out the hard way that mom and dad didn't do a great job. And so many dead parents... in my daughter's senior class their were 10% who had at least one dead parent. Two out of 30 were orphans at 17.

It would literally take an act of Congress to reestablish the draft and the US Military itself doesn't want a draft anyway. They get plenty of recruits and we've long since learned that an all volunteer force is waaaaaaay more effective than conscripts.
