my luck I would leave it go and it would just sail away

More shit for narcissists

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

where is the boom mic with the string attached to this? lol

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Argh moan it’s a phone drone

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Forever alone level 99

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, you can't stabilize a drone with only two motors and no control surfaces.. Three is the minimum.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I wonder if they'll ever make tiny helicopter-style toys that only use one or two props... They'd be expensive tilt-props, though.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What about any breeze greater than a puff? Fake af.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Dude, I can see the wires

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So fake!!!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you would need about 3" props and a 3 or 4S battery with brushless motors.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When you have no friends

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fake

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is this a joke? I mean, are they making fun of me for not having any friends or what

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Soon, a drone that follows your phone via Bluetooth and live casts ya to fb.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Great until a windy day and your phone is blown out of reach

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Stand close enough to get your own wind blown hair effect. Closer even.... A new hair cut!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm torn between impressed and annoyed

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fantastic !!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The focus would be horrible

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mark Rober did a thing on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEZCxxKp0hM

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is no godsdamned way that works.....

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

correct: https://youtu.be/UQLmW4TZE3Y?t=342

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

larger motors, and props. plus this has 4 motors. iphone 10 is about 175g

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still wont keep people from walking backwards off cliffs and stuff

8 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 3

Ah natural selection

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Totally worth it if it follows you and captures the horror.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Google..! *moans* Googleeeeee..! *groaning* ...call 911!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But we'll get better videos of it. Win-win.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Good.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You say that like it's a bad thing...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, it'll just make it easier for them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mark Rober does a video disproving this as fake. Not enough lift for that weight https://youtu.be/LEZCxxKp0hM

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Idiots will still take selfies holding their phone in a bathroom mirror.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

TIL I’m an idiot.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No way in hell those two rotors could produce enough lift to keep that phone aloft.

8 years ago | Likes 1064 Dislikes 17

Thought the same, but mostly about balancing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it seems off

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

why am I so gullible

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also seems odd that he keeps the phone so high at the end to turn off the fans. Almost as if the phone is attached to something off frame...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

IPhones weigh ~ 100 grams drones with propellers that size weigh ~10 grams

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Hmm some of those run at 30k rpm for helicopters. I have a few at the house, maybe I can test. *ponders*

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

It’s not purely about speed, a propeller going too fast creates turbulence and makes the airfoil less efficient.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This lesson brought to me by Capsela. Bubble boat won't move? Step down the propeller speed! For your health.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

+1 for Capsela, back when there were toys to make you think.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Air cavitation is a thing too - it would spin faster than the air could be taken in.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah but you need tip speed around 200mph

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would you agree that's a 3" diameter blade? Then it's a 9.4" circumference which at 30,000 rpm = 282,000" per min = 267mph.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No, I wouldn't. That looks like a normal sized phone, all of which are under 3" across. So the props are <2.5, I'd wager under 2". 30krpm is

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5)batteries can't output the 10's of amps needed to get the power from more powerful motors.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4)around 100 grams unless you spend loads of money on a higher KV motor. You can't use more battery, cause they get heavy fast & cell

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3) most phones are at least 100g, +external battery +ESC+motors we're outside the thrust of them. A pair of rotors this small only puts out

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2)hard to get without a pretty big battery. You need 11V or so on most motors, so tip speed isn't the reason this is fake. Weight is.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fishing pole out of frame?

8 years ago | Likes 141 Dislikes 2

Gotta be quicker than that!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or digitally removed.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

My thoughts exactly

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was thinking it was stuck to a fishing line attached to an actual drone maybe?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that would be the most convincing way to do it, plus it would be easier to use two lines to prevent spinning.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a kit out there using 4 rotors of similar size to make a phone a drone. I was too sceptical to buy it though. But maybe 2 can 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

That sounds like a good way to fuck the hell out of your phone battery.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not a chance. The phome battery isn't made to dump power that fast. Umong other things.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not just using the phone battery.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

if it used any other battery, it would absolutely be too heavy for two rotors to keep afloat

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What about a pair of watch batteries?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 generate sufficient lift to keep the weight afloat.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

But with only 2 there is no way it is staying so stable

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Idk, could be fake, but modern brushless motors are strong enough where 2 could possibly maintain the weight of a modern mobile.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Is not about strength but surface area of the blades of the rotors

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those rotors are 2-3 times larger and the motors too.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also, 2 rotors can't hover stably without another degree of freedom e.g. pivoting motors. Almost definitely fake.

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 4

Remove almost. Add definitely.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Definitely definitely fake

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe two can be stable if there's a reaction control wheel on the other side. But yeah, probably fake.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think they probably could if you have the two props spinning opposite directions.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Google the rocket pendulum fallacy, it's a somewhat unintuitive

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That would not work since it would be impossible to tune 'm just right. Also, the voltage drop after a couple of seconds would see it go ...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... down very soon. Then you get windshear and (lower) ground effect constantly influencing the lift. You would need a flight controller ...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... like in, say, a drone to have any chanche of keeping it in the air. I had a micro drone with 4 motors basically that size and it ...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can you explain this a little more? What is another degree of rotation and why is it required to keep it stable?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try standing on one heel. That's 1. Try two. You need 3 points of contact with the ground to keep stable without moving. Similar here.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

One thing I forgot to add: a controlled tilting propeller would change things. e.g: modern helicopters. https://youtu.be/xtZpcUj_wqQ

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

These look like standard quadcopter props, though, so still likely fake.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some people don't want to understand stability, I guess.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Thanks. This helps.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s because we’re topheavy. The phone is bottomheavy, like hanging a panel from a string at two points. It’s not perfect but it’s stable.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

But it's a propeller, not a balloon. It doesn't push upward, but in whichever direction it's pointing...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Google the rocket pendulum fallacy

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Rocket pendulum fallacy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's exactly how it's hanging, though. By a string. Not propellers.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then the batteries die and your phone just drops 5 feet to the ground.

8 years ago | Likes 1346 Dislikes 12

just don't get an iphone

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

If only phones had some way of telling how much battery life was left!

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

It doesn't appear to be plugged into the phone for power.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair enough, I would try and pull from the phone, but not sure if you can pull off the USB from all or any phones.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. They make personal fans to connect to the iPhone port to draw power from. But clearly this thing isn't real.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You might not be able to pull enough power needed for propellers that will actually hold the phone up.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So just include a simple algorithm in the app that any less than a certain percentage of batt. life refuses to use the props. Easy solution.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Phone case outhtat cover it

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

In the water

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you use it knowing full well you don't have enough battery life you deserve it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If it were a separate attachment, with it's own power source. Like a strap on vibrating Drondo. Welp, that's it's name apparently. "Drondo"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Safety feature, add a gyro and make that bitch slowly go down till it touches the ground at 5%

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

My bad, accelerometers

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Can't turn on camera after certain battery percentage.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Right, the phone won't let the camera open under a certain percentage. But how would this thing draw power from the phone if it were real?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just pair it with this thing:

8 years ago | Likes 205 Dislikes 1

. I need more info

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but what about when you accidentally drop the phone over your face?

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

That's how you get a cool eyepatch. Pirate cosplays all year round.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Bet'cha get a lot o' booty with it too...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What is that and where can i get it

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

. (Sorry if I got your hopes up via a notification)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember hearing about it on the radio. Think it was some German guy who invented it. I’ll try to find it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You need to call someone in a patent office right now

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 14

Yeah that's not how patents work. Can't patent it if it's been done before.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

It his how jokes work. Or did you think I asked him to get to his old times telegram and wire the patent clerk

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also it's kind of a dick move even if it would work. Patent your own shit, wtf is wrong with you?!

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You can. Welcome the the USA. If I invent X, you can patent it if I haven’t done it. And I cannot do it anymore because someone patented it.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Tell that to Edison and Apple

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

life is unfair, but it usually works that way

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
