As a kid, my older brother was blasting a drywall bucket into the air with M80s. I took a smoke ball and used a nail to hollow it out. Cut open "inch and a halfers" and dumped out their powder. Packed it into that little smoke ball. Cut a lady finger in half (they only spit sparks if cut in half) and stuck it in the top and used gum to seal it into place, drying it out overnight. It blew a hole in the street and we never found the bottom to the drywall bucket. The concussion was amazing!
All these comments, and nobody decrying the use of vertical filming instead of horizontal? O_O With all the hate vertical gets I'd have expected someone to do it by now if only on general principles.
Reminds me of the manhole cover on top of a hole that a nuke was detonated in. IIRC it was the first object launched into space after going about 125,000 mph. It appeared in a single frame of the video of the event, never to be seen again
I donโt actually know any physics but I think youโre mistaken about the up-energy being the same as the down-energy. At the peak of its flight itโs not moving at allโ 0% kinetic, 100% potential energy. Then it starts falling and the only thing acting on it at that point is gravity and like, air resistance I guess? All the power from the explosion is gone and itโs the same as if you just dropped it from that height. But I would also expect it to get dented in that case so ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ
It's basically a big thin sheet of metal. It is not correct to say that it will collide with the ground with the same amount of energy as it left the ground with because air resistance will reduce its speed quite a bit. It likely falls through the air more slowly than it went up. I'm sure it got dinged up a little bit but it's not some miracle pan.

Quality video. Quality camera work. +1

So what happens when you try a small nuke?

I'm please with how straight it flies - more stable than I would have expected.

I like the one that went up without flipping at all. Supremely satisfying.

Impressed with this person's lighting and safety back peddling and getting low. Good environment choice for this, too.

If only we could use a stream of explosive charges to keep it going. Perhaps small clean nukes...Project Orion, anyone?

Now all we need is the weight of the pot and we can estimate the power of the explosion

Not necessarily. most of the pressure just goes around it
Macewindow54
And the landing?
robotcaleb
It's hardly moving. There's no weight to it. the steel is not going to spontaneously break.
Macewindow54
Would it not be moving with all of it's momentum from the fall? Wich is naturally the same as the energy imparted on it to launch it that high?
I would have expected it to land on a rim and get dented.
