What we are seeing is the backlash against all the social progress of the last 80 years. We should have expected it and prepared for it, but we never do. Those weak assholes who feel threatened by the very idea of equality need to be put back in their insecurity box.
If you're not a fan of immigration policy, rant at a politician and present sound reasoning. The actual immigrant in front of us did not create that policy. They have been vetted and security checked. Chances are, you're conversing with a worthwhile person. Show them you are one too.
Immigrants! Bringing their culture into my country! Opening food places with delicious treats! Expanding the gene pool and paying taxes with the jobs they work! Make England Great! Send immigrants!
Has anyone else noticed that in the last few months they've gone from using the label "illegals" to using the label "immigrants". Almost like they want to make it easier to go for the legal immigrants next.
You people realize that urban MAGA and rural progressives exist? Hell even the handful of MAGAT farmers i still hear from made comment that immigrant migrant workers are necessary.
Because @OP, no matter how much we progress technologically. We are still a very tribal species at our cores. So those kinds of manipulations will always be effective. We are just programmed to protect our own tribe from outsiders. And if they can manage to convince people that some group isn't part of the tribe that we have built a nation to represent. Then there will be people who try to force them out.
Don't delete this post. It helps show other people with similar beliefs that they are not alone and gives evidence to the lies that 'deportations are the will of the people'
You are not alone. And we all need to be more vocal that this is not what we want.
Note that everyone living in America is a "potential illegal immigrant" until we show proof otherwise if ever asked. And that's why due process is vital for Everyone.
Roughly half of "illegal immigrants" simply overstayed a visa.
Knew a guy who worked here legally for his whole adult life, owned his own business here, married a US a citizen and raised children here, never in trouble with the law, by all measures a model citizen... but he couldn't get permanent residency, the immigration court process was just too expensive to retire here.
So he and his US citizen wife retired back in his birth country, Canada.
Progress is not linear. You are part of this society, which is trying to improve, trying to learn, and trying to overcome the lifetime diet of propaganda, which is the water of our aquarium. You have a voice. You have wisdom. You can seize the power to speak your perspective aloud to the people around you
When you care for someone, society cares for that person. When you speak in defense of someone, society defends that person. Perhaps you are only one voice, but a single voice, shaking, breaking the deafening silence of inaction, can unchain may voices who do have the strength to speak next
That is literally what the current administration is doing. I think the point of their comment was, instead of deporting immigrants (which the current administration hates for whatever reason - at least the immigrants who aren't white), let's deport the current administration.
Sounds like we're all in agreement. They don't literally think we should deport republicans, it's just a way to express that IF there was a binary choice, they'd prefer to get rid of republicans instead of the people the republicans are deporting. It's not a binary choice though.
"Did not vote" actually won the election, with Trump trailing behind that and only getting 0.8% more votes than Kamala. He won with a plurality of votes not a majority.
I don't disagree, but I don't like crediting Trump with more votes than he actually got. Indifference helped him win but he has never got a majority of people to actively vote for him.
Those people liked him enough to not vote against him. I'm not saying he's loved but the majority of Americans are clearly willing to tolerate him, and that's bad enough.
You have to remember that humans have a problem with focusing on the negative. There is more good than bad in the world. We are just genetically programmed to focus and remember the negative. It doesn't help that bad news sells. If a news program played the positive, all the time ratings would be non-existent. People will watch the bad for hours. But be bored of the good stories.
A primary symptom of infection by The Stupid is a sharp increase of babbling incoherency, and a primal need to convey said incoherency to as many potential new hosts as possible.
It's how the virus spreads. And just as Influenza batters against even strong immune systems, those humans with strength of mind do not succumb but feel the effects nonetheless.

Investing in immigrants (by way of initial support where necessary) pays off in significant longterm benefits to the economy.
mrthewhitee
You haven't "progressed so little" you have REGRESSED. you had progressed, and now you have returned to a previous point.
Happens all the time unfortunately.

Don't conflate immigrants with illegal immigrants. Huge difference
DorkJedi
Why not? MAGA can't tell the difference.
IamTOOOLDforThisShite
Most so-called "illegal" immigrants are merely undocumented.
The vast majority are highly motivated to be law-abiding and productive members of society ... they provide net longterm benefits to the economy.
skapanda616
The difference is a handful of documents.

Racism and xenophobia are. That's the root cause.

"Did not vote" actually won the election, with Trump trailing behind that and only getting 0.8% more votes than Kamala. He won with a plurality of votes not a majority.

""Did not vote" when Trump is on the ballot is a vote for "I don't care about Fascism". Don't even try to whitewash it.

Indifference is still a willful choice. "Did not vote" did, in fact, vote through inaction.
