I got rear ended on 1/29 (full details on my last post). Herniated a disc in my neck and three in my lower back. All herniations are causing nerve impingements.
Due to the herniation in my neck I’ve lost the dexterity in my hands. I need my hands for my job, I fabricate orthotic and prosthetics. So after every other option has failed (PT, meds, epidural) and due to me fearing the nerve issues will become permanent, I’ve decided to get surgery.
My lawyer is “happy” though because it will make my case in my lawsuit that much stronger.
I’m just hoping the surgery succeeds, because if I lose my hands I’ll have to completely change my path in life.

Well you won't have to worry about slouching at the dinner table anymore either. Double win

Oof man. I got rear ended not that long ago. Luckily no injuries on either side, but the whole back of my car was crushed in. Best of luck!!

I had an extrusion (worse than hernia) in my neck, replaced with artificial disc instead of fuse. It's nbd you'll be right as rain

Is your lawyer Lionel Hutz?

This sounds like a B-grade version of Doctor Strange... If it fails, try a guru

Good luck. I hope the surgery is successful. I’m waiting for my symptoms to get worse before the neurosurgeon will do the laminectomy.

I've had L5-S1 fusion. Nerve specialists work in conjunction w surgeons to constantly monitor & stimulate nerves to check functionality.

It's for the best (c6/c7 here). I've had much less pain since. The only thing is tingling in my right arm from time-to-time.

Have you tried a chiropractor? I know a lot of medical doctors hate them but the can help if you get a good one. May not for you though.
Manbob456
I’ve done chiropractors before, but I can barely stand someone slightly pushing on my spine right now so I’m wary.

A good chiropractor wouldn’t touch someone in this situation. They’d send them to a medical doctor

I hope you have had a 2nd opinion outside of the group your orthopedist is in. A disc replacement should be an option. Please get a2nd

I have, this ain’t my first surgery rodeo, I’ve had two acl repairs lol

You sure make music theory sound dramatic.

If that was 1/29/18 then I think you are moving a bit fast. You may end up in the same place, but there's still healing going on.
Manbob456
I’ve gotten worse not better, I’m moving fast because I can’t imagine a life where I don’t have deft hands, it has been horrible.

Yeah, PT takes time. I've been dealing with sciatica and PT helped a lot, but it took months.
