You should probably get a different helmet.
I have an auto shade and have it turned down to 8.5. You would think with this bright ass puddle it wouldn’t be hard.

I noticed that for me personally it was easier to see with a darker shade. Idk, that was 8 years ago tho.

Depends on the process, TIG no problem, mig will lack full penetration
secretagentdoubleobeaver
Based on the cleanliness of the prepared joint, I would guess they will TIG weld it

As someone who has never welded in their life: it always looks so easy. Could someone help explain to me why I'm wrong?
Percevaus
There are lots of ways to fuck up though, inclusions, lack of fusion, blow through, cracking, undercut, cold lap. And some you can't see.
Most of it isn't that hard, if you fit it up correctly, have decent hand eye coordination, and know what you're doing.
DobermanTech
Just had a bad time tig welding thin sheets. Despite brushing and cleaning everything first, the puddle wouldn't melt the filler nicely.
Imagine a fountain pen dripping and a tiny sponge in your other hand. Make a straight line of exactly the right width in the right spot.

Not a welder but: my understanding is it's not hard, just prep work and practice.
tossabeertoyourwitcher
It's liquefying metal with an electric arc. Too hot & it burns thru. Too cold & it won't bond. Electrode too far breaks arc. Too close and
it sticks or ruins the electrode. Go to slow and it gets too hot. Too fast and it's too cold. Don't tack and clamp enough and it all warps.
Material too dirty and the weld will be weak. Don't push the puddle in the right spot and the bead isn't in the joint. Do it all right the
