I'm always about new sound. Nearing fifty and I can appreciate the crispness of the new stuff - But Im big on Nostalgia so those old beats still feel as good - and even probably better than they did back in the day because of the memories attached. The new stuff could all be by the same artist, though. If this were all on one album I'd think it was the same guy/gal. Not that the music is bad - just very similar. But thank you OP for the reminders and the new music.
This meme is so old, some of the songs on that list are getting to be as old as the "old school" songs were when the new song came out. Opr came out in 2012. In 2012, Blue was 13 years old... its been 13 years since 2012.
I am 70++ years old and I downloaded every one of these songs! This kicks butt! Gonna burn to a CD, get in my 2002 Ford Exploder and ride around the country side without a care in the world. Thanks for putting this up with a the complete list! Wish someone would do a list of the comment post one.
This has been on my To Do list for a while. You just saved me a TON of time using web/apps to identify each song snippet. For this, you have my Eternal Gratitude (*announcer voice* Grattitude not actually eternal or binding, but still totally sincere).
Does it count as nostalgia if I didn't get the appeal of most of them the first time around? The newer ones just sound simplistic takes on on previous average, like you've achieved a song mechanically, but it's just pleasing noise really
I love Gesaffelstein. His music fell into my algorithm last year - I now have most of his music on my phone. Mania and Psycho are reminiscent of older music just driving a beat.
That's cool, Ive seen him twice now and I was looking around going... Somethings fucky, time to walk. It's almost too much and not enough for me at the same time. Not knocking just a preference from an old head
yeah, happy hardcore and family, the kind of mainstream techno of the late 90s, had like 160-180bpm...the modern stuff sounds like the drum n bass house mix in the chill out zone of the club where you go to take a break, lounge on a sofa and have a drink after exhausting yourself on the dancefloor...its not "bad" or so, its just slow, it doesnt pull you to jump up from your seat and storm the dancefloor...
Mick Gordon is so fucking talented. I don't have the words to express my feelings about them replacing him with fucking Finishing Move. The Dark Ages looks like it'll play well, but I can confidently say the soundtrack won't even be close. An imitation that clearly falls short of the original.
To clarify: the only thing I've any experience with that Finishing Move did music for were the Halo remakes, games I go out of the way to listen to the original soundtracks for because the new music is so much worse. I was upset they replaced the old music at all, ESPECIALLY for halo 2

I have this as a playlist on Spotify.

Going to see Fatboy Slim next month!

I like all of them but the new ones are a bit samey. That said, the 90's was a time when a huge variety of sounds made it big.
swedeonamoose
Def getting old, the new school ones just kinda sound like they belong on the same album from the same artist to me.
MikeHerman
Except those new school songs are 5-10 years old now. Let's get some new new school songs lol
FirePrinceZuzu
I'm from the 80s and I love Monolink's first album, Amniotic (where that song is from). It's really good.
Necrothean
In this thread, my fellow old people fall prey to nostalgia-baiting about "my music was better" like their parents did before them, ad infinitum.

thought the same (also never heard any of these new songs)

Try Midnight generation - Don't wait up. Old school vibes from a new group https://deezer.page.link/5nQQP2w6LTgMVMnz9
Wharrgarrble
Ehh geffelatein is fine but I don't see the major appeal from all the young ones. There's a lot in that vein being hardly discernable

"The future is now old man" :)
I also dont see the appeal, so that makes two of us.

It sounds so ..slow? It's like my music was made for ecstacy and the new stuff was made for heroin.

you may have a point there. Isn't the youth all doing ketamin today, which is also a downer?
BurnieCinders
Keta is more sideways in my experience.
Mistruths
I mean, everything's a downer rn
AzgarOgly
choosing 100% old school.
voidmain
Right? New school sound like it’s the same track..
AzgarOgly
I mean... it was not?
Another thing... well...
Prodigy is in "old fart" list. And I remember the world before they even started.
DeadeicPrints
Wow I haven't thought of Prodigy for a while and now I won't be able to get them out of my head lol.

They were recently featured in Punkey Doodle's Wizard War.

yep doom 1993 music wins.

I respect the original, but Doom 2016 knocks it outta the park for me
Scillman
I'm not sure, I really like Rip 'n Tear from the newer OST.
ElusiveThing
They really nailed the music in the new games. Instant DOOM atmosphere when that soundtrack kicks in.
