To most people, this probably isn't much of an achievement. But for me, this is big. I have awful social anxiety. I'll have panic attacks just by sitting next to people I don't know, forcing me to sit at the back of the classroom to avoid people sitting next to me. Lately I've learned to control the panic attacks by turning my anxiety into anger, but at the price of coming off as rude instead of weird.

The fact that I not only managed to ask someone if I could sit next to them, but also actually manage to sit next to them without panicking makes me feel like maybe my social anxiety is making progress.

Been there - Just remember, they're probably not thinking what you're afraid they're thinking. It's way worse in your head.

So now they get to KNOW you're weird instead of just kind of guessing so.

Fight or flight reflex, yeah. I'm familiar. I used to get panic attacks like that a few years ago. I had to take CBT for a while. [1/2]

It helped a little bit, but there's only so much it could do for me. It mostly taught me how to avoid panicking when someone else talks.

Well awesome, if you can relate to that then im 100% on board. People just tend to toss it around without understanding and its annoying

Flight 100% with no threats. Im not saying you dont get one but crying and being a wreck in public is making light of it the same way someon

Who has a bad day claims to have depression.

I want to start counting the people on this site who DON'T claim to have social anxiety.

I don't think any of them talk about it. It'd be weird to bring up anyway.

I don't have social anxiety but I do spend most of my days suppressing homicidal rage. I am not sure if that counts or not.

I feel ya. I don't know if I'm the same or just have to deal with customers.

I get overwhelmed in crowds, but I can handle myself. Does that count?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

If you don't post about it on the internet, then yes, it counts.

It's almost like people with social anxiety have an easier time talking to people on an anonymous website.

It's also as if people like to be victims instead of learning how to live life offline.

Right, because people with medical conditions need to sack the fuck up. Just like the guy with no leg, or the person with depression.

Sack the fuck up is the perfect responce sweetheart .

Whether or not you have a "medical condition" or just a behavioral problem. You should try and sack the fuck up.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Thanks. I'll be sure to keep that in mind next time I see someone needing a pair of glasses. They should just sack the fuck up and see.

You cant mentally change physical traits stop trying to pretend that's the same as mentally changing psychological traits
