This is very cute

very similar concept to the plot of "A Silent Voice", if yer interested.

Literally the kindest death in that anime ("Another")

I wish more bullies were like this but... As a teacher, they never change. No matter how hard you try the heart takes too much to heal.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This reminds me of a Silent Voice -- If no one has seen that movie, I highly recommend it. And warning, you will cry.

Well that was adorable. I was surrounded by good friends in elementary school, my torment began in 7th grade and continued through High School. Kids can be so freaking cruel, and teachers/administrators have no fucks to give.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Great story, carried me right along... and sweet!

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Read K-Pax. (Not the movie)

"Why does that matter?" More people need to ask themselves this, because it rarely does. (From Uranus? don't matter. Just an asshole, tho?)

2 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 0

I always read this just because I like the buildup to that line. And the rest of it.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Because long term beliefs in the impossible lead to psychological isolation and hostility to anyone who doesn't believe you, causing severe neuropathy and possibly death. Case and point, she literally broke her neck

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Counterpoint, she exhibited literally no hostility to anyone, and repeatedly sought out her biggest detractor.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

in this comic yes. But this kind of delusion has serious long term effects and can lead to quite severe consequences.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Birdy was a great movie

My childhood was... Extreme. Every kind of abuse you can imagine, and several you can't or won't. Extreme poverty as well. 2nd and 3rd grade, I used to tell kids I was from Proxima Centauri, and was just waiting for my real family to come get me. And I believed it with all my heart for some time.

They're just running late, since they don't have warp speed technology yet.

This gave me a lot of feels because when I was in elementary school I would pretend in my head that I was from Pluto and I was waiting for my real parents to come finally get me.

Well I'm sorry to inform you there's been a terrible accident.

I'm sorry about your parents, that sucks.

There’s still time.

I thought I was trapped in a nightmare and I was waiting for my real family to wake me up. Eventually I came to the conclusion that if I hadn't woken up in this long , it's no nightmare.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My mother used to say I was a fairy child (as in, fairies took her baby and left me in it's place). I always wanted my fairy parents to come get me.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Are you autistic by chance? I've heard that statement is often linked to it.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is weird AF, I thought the same thing.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same - I thought I had to be an alien. Turns out I was just undiagnosed autistic ( and trans! )

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

My sister convinced me I was an alien and I went hard into it. Also turned out to be trans

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought maybe I was a fae changeling, and that my magic powers would develop. Turns out I'm Autistic/ADHD.

"Why does that matter" I love this. Parents are always worried that their kid is "different" and they want them to be "normal" because if they are different then "normal people" will be cruel to them. If that's the way normal people behave then why aren't we encouraging more of our kids to be different? Making everyone "normal" doesn't seem to be such a great idea. Apparently normal people can be pretty crappy.

Holy shit, am o reading this right? The same artist as this made Night School??

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Y'know, this is kinda how it felt when I was in school (and now really). I'm autistic, and often feel like I'm from a completely different planet to everyone else, never really belonging here. I used to look at the stars at night and hope some aliens would come pick me up and I'd find out where I really belonged.

2 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 1

I used to read, a lot. I got bullied from age 7-ish to 14-ish. I forget the exact years as unsurprisingly I don't remember much of my childhood, but combined with home issues and trauma therein, I fantasised a lot, usually of being whisked away into whatever world I had read about. I would, some nights, stare out of the poorly insulated window as the wind rattled it; close my eyes, and wish as hard as I could that life would be better. Now, I don't get bullied all these years later. Still alone.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Same here, moreso lately. A homesick feeling for somewhere you've never been is the best way to describe it.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I still kinda feel like this and I'm almost 30. It doesn't feel like this is what life is supposed to be

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I'm in my 30s and I still do feel like this, I just don't look up at the stars anymore.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow, this is exactly how I feel...kinda feels nice knowing I'm not the only one.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is she really from Pluto because I don’t think I can handle it if she isn’t.

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Probably a thing to help cope with the fact her mom isn't around. Possibly dead and the father is faking the letters.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Or the mom was terminally ill for long enough that she could plan ahead and write all the letters herself to help kid deal with the grief.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

😭

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Why does that matter? Because that belief is leading her to do dangerous and risky things that have directly led to her being injured and could possibly in the future get her killed.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 47

There's always one person who thinks the real fault lies with the child who has an overactive imagination or is just too bullyable, and the real heroes are the people who crush them into conformity and adult sense. Thanks for being that person 🙄

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

"Why does it matter" wasn't regarding her belief, it was regarding the bullying. You are not helping a fat person by mocking them, you are not helping someone with a dellusion by making fun of them, you are not helping someone with an insecurity by taunting them. Those are shitty justifications used by shitty people so they can keep being shitty.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

"That belief" did nothing. Bullying her and literally stealing and throwing away her stuff led her to do a risky thing that led to her injury. Assign blame appropriately.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

Do you honestly believe she would have still jumped even if she didn't think she was from Pluto?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 27

Maybe. Maybe not. But I can guarantee she would not have jumped if her property had not been stolen from her and thrown over the ledge to tease her for being "weird". Because there would have been no reason to.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

If she honestly believes she can fly there is always a chance she attempts it. You can't let a child wander around if you think there is a legitimate chance she might jump off something on a whim.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 20

I've seen tons of people go after valuable stuff other people took and threw away, even when going after it was risky. So yes.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Buddy, take the L, the kid bullied her and should not have.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Being bullied isn't what led her to jump off the ledge. The kid legit thought she was gonna fly.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 25

I see what you're thinking, but, if you were to ask me, I see it more as her rationalizing it afterwards to explain WHY she didn't fly to the other kid. As if she expected him to say so hey, why didn't you fly? and she answers with the gravity.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Jfc, stop the victim blaming, the comic is literally about this and you failed to grasp the point. Hopefully you won't go as far as to be a bully apologist. Just stop.

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Take the L, she got bulled, he threw something precious to her away. He wanted to bully someone weird into being "normal". That's the moral of the story, that was bad. Get your saneist shit out of here.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

At the same time, if people had indulged her belief they wouldn't have bullied her and could reminder her that she will get hurt here.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Indulging mental delusions isn't helpful to anyone.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 35

I mean... I agree with you, but a lot of society disagrees, consider how many kids believe in Santa clause

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There are ways to go about challenging someone's dellusions and engaging with mental illness. There is a method to it, done by actual professionals. Jackasses that just want to get off making fun of people do a lot more harm than people who indulge it.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And yet, religions exist. Either you're not religious and indulge the religious, or you are and indulge both the non-religious and practitoners of other faiths, many of whom take certain actions that may be harmful to themselves or others in the belief that it will affect their karma, afterlife, or whatever.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And it's generally not recommended for laymen (especially not children) to try and 'break' mentally ill people's delusions. It's the job of mental health professionals to deal with that, not 9 year olds.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Who's job is it to see that she gets the help of mental health professionals? The father who seems to be fine with her jumping off of shit because she thinks shes from Pluto. He shouldn't be okay with this delusion after it's led her to self endangering behavior. She jumped because she legitimately thought she could fly, not because she was being bullied. She needs professional help, not to have her guardian ignore the situation.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 22

Do you not have the emotional intelligence to see other options than indulging or bullying?

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

When the only thing the father has to say is "Why shouldn't I let her believe she can fly" what else am I supposed to think? If my daughter jumped off a ledge because she thought she could fly I'd be getting her in with a mental health professional as soon as I could. I'm not gonna let her keep running around under the delusion she can fly.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 18

The father never said that. Perhaps you need to reread the comic.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In this fake comic, she's a young girl, probably in elementary school or early middle school. I feel for you if you can't be ok with her having an imagination

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

My kids had pretty active imaginations, none of them every tried to jump off shit because they imagined they could fly and if they did I wouldn't hand wave it like the father in this comic.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 17

the way you're talking, I'm gathering you've had some... shall we say "experience" with your kids' "delusions"... Well, if so, I'm happy to inform you that one day you will never see them again. They will cut you out of their lives, and thrive without you, and they Will. Not. Look. Back. You will die, alone, miserable, in whatever nursing home they could dump you in. Oh it won't be a bad one. You're still their genetic donor. But there'll be no love in their choice. You made sure of that. :)

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

She mentioned casually that she could fly, then was bullied for it. Could hardly say anyone was indulging her, but whatever you say. I trust your parental experience that this could never happen to any child of yours ever, regardless of circumstances out of your control
