It sucks getting old

Been going to the gym for almost a decade now but suddenly, this past few months my body has been giving me a lot of shit. Woke up one day in June with a terrible lower back pain that never went away, Teeth are starting to break and chip despite good oral hygine, got so sick that it laid me flat for a two weeks last month, and for the past few weeks had been having a hard time sleeping. All of this just shy of turning 40. WTF body!? I'm taking care of you and shit. It's not like I'm stressed or depressed or anything. C'mon, work with me.

Honestly how lupus started for me . My body was just crapping itself.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Couple of things to check. Check your test levels at your doc I don't know why I'm assuming you're a guy and have your thyroid checked.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Take a multivitamin for 30 days and see if you feel better. Sounds bunk but seriously helped my depression. Worth a try for $10

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get a book by James Nestor called "Breath." Helps with sleep, but also...everything else.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cancer. Get blood work done asap. Your body doesn't fail this hard abruptly. Best of luck.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go to the doctor dude, that's not normal

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same and I take all vitamins and minerals and get check ups but still, shit breaking left and right. Just thru out my back. I'm 30

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ask your doctor, it could be a diet thing. Your needs change a little with both age and muscle mass and not fulfilling them can fuck you up.

4 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 2

Go to the doctor, that's not the old.

The teeth part. You might be grinding your teeth without knowing. Check with your dentist!

Covid?]

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea nobody sat me down for the reverse puberty talk either

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go get a check up! a friend had really bad back pains after his workouts and dismissed it, found out he had a couple of tumours months after

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I would suggest going to a medical professional. I presume that because you are asking Imgur that you are in the US and can't afford it

4 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 4

REST IS JUST AS IMPORTANT

24 hours a day, I’m gonna be Superman

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

'that never went away,' - id talk to someone about that

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Dude (or dude-ette) - That's not normal. 40 --- Please - you're still a young punk. Go see a doctor. Don't ignore it.

Not enough people appreciate the importance of a good diet. It can be life-changing; it has far more impact than exercise.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Listen to throwawaydoctor. Once you mentioned your teeth were chipping out of nowhere, I got concerned. Not a dr, but go to one. ASAP.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lurked here for years, never posted, registered to respond. I'm a doctor. Sorry to be blunt but you need urgent bloods to rule out myeloma.

4 years ago | Likes 621 Dislikes 0

If ruled out go autoimmune.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am another doctor and that screams myeloma to me too. Get blood work asap

4 years ago | Likes 172 Dislikes 0

@Op, Def go to the Dr.

4 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 0

@op what you are experiencing is not normal even at 50. See a doctor ASAP

4 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

I am not doctor, but I came here to say this, too.

4 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

Nurse here. Was about to say go see a doc then I scrolled a little further.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Will get myself checked. Thanks for the info

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I'm not a doctor but cancer was my first thought as well. Good luck OP!

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Up up up you go. Check this @OP. Sorry if it's true.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

can you change your name too SometimestobluntDoctor and come just once in a while

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

@op please see this

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My Dad had a mug I often think about, it said "after 40 it's patch, patch, patch"

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lower back pain is serious. Dial back the deadlifts and squats and add more stretching for about 4 to 8 weeks

4 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 5

I had the say issue and stretching/core work helped to get rid of it. Sounds like they should def go to a doctor though

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The back pain may be resulting in grinding teeth at night too, so done assume unrelated causes.

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Sorry. I don't understand what you mean?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think they meant “don’t” assume unrelated causes. I think the teeth chipping and the bones hurting are probably gonna be related to diet

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Seems more like some kind of deficiency to me. As you get older the risk to reward for intense compound exercises like deadlift and squats

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Isn't good enough to justify carrying on with it. Better to do isolated training and maintain good nutrient intake

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Get blood work. Could be some deficiency somewhere. Low vitamin D or some shit. Best thing to do is check.

4 years ago | Likes 472 Dislikes 1

That. A long term low vitamine B level has fucked up a lot for me. I get shots now, but damage is done.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 27 and this suddenly started happening to me. Turns out my endocrine system throwing a fit. Trt helped me physically and mentally

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you live north of Arizona you are d3 deficient and if you are black 2x as low, everyong needs min 1000iu per day.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

D, magnesium, potassium, B12

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep, get checked!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This!!!! I was having everything OP mentioned, severely low vitamin D levels.

4 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

I had undetectable levels of vitamin D. Massive doses of it leave me unconscious, small doses just exhaust me, but then I've been /1

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

exhausted since I was 6, which is as far back as I can recall. Been taking only large doses for 2 years, no changes to anything. /2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

2 forms of vitamin D dietary supplements: vit. D2 (ergocalciferol) and vit. D3 (cholecalciferol). Apparently which one you take matters.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah, I've tried any number of things from a few docs, none have any idea so far over the last couple decades.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Having weird reactions to normal things sucks. /3

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

http://doctorkatend.com/vitamin-k2-and-the-calcium-paradox/ look into vitamin K2 for your teeth

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

She’s not an MD doctor, need more sources. http://doctorkatend.com/about/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here’s more about it elsewhere: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/vitamin-k2#dental-health

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“Researchers have speculated that vitamin K2 may affect dental health. However, no human studies have tested this directly.”

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The joy of Healthline, confusing things by having a couple tidbits on K2 and following it with K1. It’s like saying B1 and B2 are the same.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Her book was the one my dad’s orthopaedic surgeon told him to read and it has an extensive bibliography.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have any tips for receding GUMS? I use Listerine mouthwash and 'Colgate Cavity Protect toothpaste' right now. Anything else? :(

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you're using mouthwash after brushing your teeth, you're rinsing away any protective benefit of the toothpaste.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

(same goes for rinsing your mouth with plain water after brushing too)

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

K2 should help, even if you supplement I’d add hard cheeses (edam, gouda, cheddar) in your diet &/or sauerkraut to help good bacteria, too>

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They’re good sources with extra benefit. Are you staying hydrated? “Mask mouth” has become an issue (dry mouth leading to gum disease)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Vitamins and minerals get used up faster when you exercise, you may not be replacing them all. Also body changes happen throughout life.

4 years ago | Likes 806 Dislikes 2

Also its less efficient so you need more of them to have a similar result.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. A lot of physicians aren't trained horribly well in exercise physiology so they won't recommend supplementation for heavy exercise

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

yeah...talking to a nutritionist and personal trainer is more useful than I thought it would be

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

probably should think about taking some supplements then

4 years ago | Likes 214 Dislikes 2

Just take them, don’t think about it. If nothing else, it’s just expensive pee

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Unless you're American, go to the doctor and consult them.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Greens powder like athletic greens, cal and mag citrate, vitamin k2, adaptenogens like Ashwaganda and maca. 2 grams of nat vit c with 2g msm

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had something similar happen got a blood test, I was in great shape.. but Holy hell came up I was deficient in allot of things..

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You need to get bloodwork done, what you're describing sounds serious.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Supplements if your diet is decent are rarely of much use.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Look for GOOD supplements, many of them are garbage.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also digestion worsens / acid / pancreatic enzyme production drops off w age = malnutrition. Gas, bloating, changing bm habits? Betaine HCl

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Vit D with calcium helps the body absorb it faster. Zinc, and possibly Vit. C you don't need to go overboard just to make expensive pee.

4 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

Get yourself checked out, could be anything. My Mum has an iron deficiency she didn't know about that was causing fatigue.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

also make sure your protein is a good 1 /not half carbs & u could also have issues with sweeteners messing up your gut biome

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My friend also managed to dissolve a lot of his teeth through cola drinks, but I think you already don't drink them much, if at all.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Except vitamins ADEK, don’t take too much of any of those

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh bud if you’re not even taking a multivitamin, start yesterday.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

OMG yes you need to supplement! Especially trace minerals needed for hydration. Also you may seriously need to STRETCH. Check out David ...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Goggins. He is an amazing Ultra athlete, ultra runs, navy seal, army ranger and he started having medical issues and pain and it turned ...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Out he simply needed to stretch. His muscles were all tight and shortened. I recommend his book Can't Hurt Me, it's a lil dark tho.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You need to stretch after every work out. Yoga is amazing. Hope that helps @Op

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't go on supplements, try eating normal food that contains the stuff. Uncooked vegetables and fruits can help a lot.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Look at your diet first. Your body will absorb vitamins and minerals from food much better than supplements

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably should go see a doctor first.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I second this

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do bloodwork, get a consultation

How can you work out for a decade and not take supplements

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Most people don't want to literally piss away their money

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So don’t use supplements that are not scientifically backed.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you can, get bloods and a doctor's appointment rather than imgur advice :)
