The T-28 Navy 2 seat trainer. 9 cylinder making 1425 hp. Love the sound of this one.
AD-5 (A-1E) Skyraider. Crew of 3. Sorry for the shaky cam. Older cell phone footage from a few years back with some prop wash.
40' long with a wing span of 50' and 15'10" high. Powered by an 18 cylinder Wright R-3350-26W making 3020 hp.
18 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800-8W made by sandwiching 2 9-cylinder radials together making 2250 hp.
The bent wing design allowed for shorter landing gear and raised the fuselage to allow for the large 13'4" 3 blade prop.
Plane was difficult to land due to aft cockpit. Pilot had about 15' of plane and engine in front of him along with wings blocking view below. On the ground, pilots would have to wave the tail to see forward due to the high nose.
Textinabox
Survival tip: when the nose is way in the air and cockpits in the back they cant see in front of them, so dont stand there.
Thome216
In the Corsair, the Brits figured how to do carrier landings by flying in almost sideways just before touchdown.
Green223
Reminds me of World War II Days at the Reading, PA airport.
RuBisCO1
And then came the turbine engine and deep pleasing pistons sounds were replaced by a ear bleeding squeal.

I'm more of an armor nerd than a plane one, but boy howdy are these some lovely machines. Something about that classic sound and look.
bluey82d
I love the sound of a radial engine

There is a local historical airfield near me and there are a bunch of old geezers that own WW2 planes, they like to take kids out for rides
IamMadeOfShamrocks
War and glamour cannot be separated.
mercbrit
Planes don’t like to sit about all year not being used. All the seals go hard and leak. To name just one issue.
tizme
Sounds like me.
xj4low
They get moved around to other shows from time to time. This show is when they show off to the locals.
mercbrit
Ahh. Makes more sense. I read it as they just fly once a year.
DayakavitaminD
Having lived right next to this airport the owners fly them periodically through the year
yamatto
Corsair was so worrisome on carrier landings the USN noped out and gave them to the USMC, RN-FAA & French kept flying them though.
IAmLeWalruse
Ah yes, the Double Wasp - my personal favorite radial engine! Gotta love Messrs. Pratt and Whitney.
Adfam247
Theres a place near Va Beach that does this weekly.
bsnyd6
You can ride in some of them too. Biplanes at least. Totally worth the money
joepat99
Not as good as the spitfire though
xj4low
They have a Spitfire Mk. VIII along with a Curtiss P-40N Warhawk. I'll see if I can add them later tonight when I get home.
xj4low
Almost forgot their P-51D Mustang, Messerschmitt ME-109, and a few WWI Sopwith Camel and Fokkers.

These are great! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, rude bot. Assuming OP uses the imperial chaos, when he's clearly using arc minutes and seconds!

Skyraider is very bad ass ! The US should’ve used them in Afghani instead of high-performance jets against Taliban foot-soldiers.
NotNotDeadpool
Warbirds were so much more exciting than jets.
JackieTreehornProductions
Since when do Skyraiders have a crew of 3?! They were the original A-10 close support a/c and man they carried a shit ton of abuse.
yamatto
it's the AD-5, the skyraider was AD-1 to AD-7 with a LOT of variation along the way.
CaptRackham
That's gotta be Cavanaugh, why didn't they take their Corsair to Ypsilanti? My friend Chuck Gardner worked there
IAmLeWalruse
Corsair Crazy at ToM! I love that air show. I go every year and they've always got a great lineup.
CaptRackham
I got to go this year and it was pretty spectacular to see all those Bent Wing Birds parked on the ramp together
IAmLeWalruse
Indeed. I don't think I'd ever seen more than one or two airworthy ones at the same time/place before the show this year. Nice change 1/2
IAmLeWalruse
2/2 of pace from just seeing P51s all the time. I love P51s as much as the next guy but I've seen a million those suckers.
CaptRackham
I work on them, they're nice but man changing banks out is a bastard
SheepdogsInc
Corsair is in my top 5 best looking airplanes ever built.
xj4low
I also like the looks of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero design.
Geek13
It's my number 1. Number two is it's number twin, the Phantom.
verumrisum
That's near Dallas isn't it? I was just there two weekends ago! Super cool!
Madethisusernameforonereason
Paine Field in Everett, WA has two record museums (one was Paul Allen's) and during summer you can watch the birds on weekends frequently.
Forgotmyoldaccountbutohwell
Once a year? That all? There's an airfield near us that has one of the few remaining Lancaster bombers flying around at least once a week.

#1 sounds more like a chopper than a plane.
Absurdturd6969
"For the public" lol i envy those pilots and so glad these birds are in the air
ilhares
Man, I wish my Mustang sounded like that.
Metalhead47
#1 FunFact: if that sounds kinda familiar, it may be because Harley-Davidson's original V-twin engine was based on a "slice" of a radial.
chrishallett83
The 7D engine from 1911? Do you have more information on that, because I haven't heard that before.
Metalhead47
Heh, now I can't find enough to verify it. IIRC, it comes down to the single-pin crankshaft, cylinder angle, funky pushrod angles, etc.
wheeledPhoto
Did those airplanes leak oil like a sieve too?
Metalhead47
Yup. Look at any flight-worthy display, there's always a catch tray under the engine. Round engines leak. Might explain a few things...
wheeledPhoto
Lol. Harley axiom “if there’s no oil under it, there’s no oil in it
moonweasel
This makes me miss my old place, a local airport was home to a Seafury, I managed to get to sit in the cockpit. No flight though. But,

Getting up in a visiting P51D on the hand, that happened. https://imgur.com/DqULshU

That was not coming in for a landing.
