I'm a white, Christian (sort of), straight male, who loves my guns and hates terrorism.
And the women on the right are fucking gorgeous. The outfits are amazingly intricate and beautiful, and I'd love a world where the culture on the right isn't suppressed by the religion on the left. Religion has a place in this world, but it has no place dictating everything people say, do, or wear.
GuardianOfTheUserSub
Admit it Op you just posted it so you can tell everyone how hot women are ????????
dandydust
that's def not the traditional dress of iran just saying. iran's traditional dress looks more like afghanistan's
greedisgoodgreenisbad
The problem isn't those who choose to dress as such. It's those who have no say in the matter.
swearty
A lot of the outfits on the right are ceremonial costume, not usually worn with the same frequency as the left
dizzyplaya
The India pic is of a wedding Sari, but on regular days they don't switch to the Nikab...they still wear very bright saris, just no makeup.
Keairan
I cannot speak for the others, but with my research on Iran, wearing a niquab is by no means a requirement. They are relatively liberal (1)
Keairan
when it comes to clothing and actually quite accepting of outsiders who aren't necessarily American. (2)
SloppyJimbo
Both are. This is incorrect
MrTitsMcGee
Some women in Africa think Westerners are oppressed and covered up. They demand that all women should be able to walk topless, @OP
maniacalmacaroni
Why did they need 12 photos on the left.
dizzyplaya
Symmetry.
LadyNoHeart
The outfits on the right are Beautiful!
dizzyplaya
The left pictures show Nikabs, not Hijabs. There is a big difference between the two.
VulpisFoxfire
I'm curious as to the difference, actually. In a hot climate, I'd think a loose wrap would be comfortable anyway, but in W rather than B.
Nognom
Everything is a tradition if you do it more than once. Just sayin.
ScrewWhatYouThinkIUpvoteSelfies
This whole post is so wrong in so many ways that I'm leaving this annoyingly vague comment and going to continue to scroll. Ugh.
OhShitThatsADeathclaw
There are varying degrees beliefs among Muslims about how women should dress. Most Muslim women, even in these countries, don't dress 1/2
OhShitThatsADeathclaw
Like the women are the left. Many Muslims are perfectly fine with women dressing like those on the right, and many women in Islam 2/3
OhShitThatsADeathclaw
Majority counties do dress with a lot more variety 3/3
fudgesickle
Finally! Someone who knows!
PackardGoose
Thanks to Islam the garb on the left IS your traditional dress.
VulpisFoxfire
The fundis of Islam, you mean. Much like fundi Xtians, they're kinda nuts. Meanwhile the *normal* members of both faiths are embarassed.
macnakamura
Loves guns hates terrorism. Brilliant.
querolasaberdisso
I guess OP is 8 yr. Or 9 yr tops.
Booomstick
nah, it was just a joke. Everybody makes shitty jokes from time to time.
aSyrianWhoStillLivesInSyria
I thank you
amoham34
Oh wow OP couldn't be more mistaken. FAIL
BlvckParadise
What a stupid post. I'm from Bosnia. People aren't forced to wear what's on the left and most don't.
BlvckParadise
What I mean to say is, the people who are wearing the left do it by choice.
fudgesickle
Thanks for the clarification.
ShiaLeboufski
@OP , what exactly do you think it says in Islam about wearing a burka all the time? That is actually imposed to that extent by the men.
WabbitCZEN
It's complicated. The TL;DR version: they inner from context that women need to cover up because they will tempt men.
Slomo89
I want to know how the women eat while wearing those. Do they have to go hide in a room where no one can see them to eat?
fudgesickle
They usually take them off. While at home they don't wear it. While outside they usually go to places that have separate sections for 1/2
fudgesickle
'families' where they can take it off. And some aren't that strict will expose their faces when eating outside, some don't. 2/2
boobcat
You are also truly ignorant and a Bigot if you think the outfits on the left are the most common in the countries on the left.
HorusTheGeezer
Hv u been to Malaysia? The only thing that's blowing up is the hijab fashion industry. Thats a traditional attire of a single ethnic group.
DownvoteDanny
Pretty sure that isn't "traditional dress" though. Traditional dress tends to be functional and something poor people could wear.
DownvoteDanny
Also, no all the Islamic countries require women to dress like they do in Saudi Arabia of Afghanistan. Many of these women chose that dress.
McDuckMoney
"Chose"
Davededon
In islamic countries where they have "the right to choose" they have to fear Rape cause of Sharia, which is more important than laws ofState
DownvoteDanny
Ok, it is possible that they were pressured into it by family. But it is also something a particularly religious girl picks. And most don't.
WabbitCZEN
"Traditional" in the sense that it's based on the traditions of the country itself. "Traditional" as in there's storied history behind them.
CaptainShutTheFuckUp
There's a storied history behind the niqab and hijab. Not sure you know what you're trying to say.
xvakarian
A lot of these are 'traditional' wedding garb it looks like. Except the Iraq one..that one doesn't seem very accurate.
dizzyplaya
True, India is definitely a wedding sari. But their everyday saris are incredibly beautiful and vibrant, even among the poor.
ScrewWhatYouThinkIUpvoteSelfies
India is not a Muslim country.
arionuq
There is a large Muslim population in India
ScrewWhatYouThinkIUpvoteSelfies
It's far from the majority. It's not a country where the government would ever demand hijabs.
fudgesickle
True but it's normal to see women wearing niqab/hijab there. Though you may see them riding a Vespa at the same time.
flatdeer
Truth.
dizzyplaya
Picture is of nikabs. And India has world's second largest muslim population, it just can
dizzyplaya
't compare to the 1 billion Hindus living there.
th3goodj3rk
So brave. @OP. Remind us what your race, religious affiliation, sexual orientation and gender had to do with any of this?
WabbitCZEN
My self description is typically associated with the type of people who think all Muslims are terrorists.
CaptainShutTheFuckUp
Gotcha - so the women on the left are either horribly oppressed or are terrorists?
eagerophiuchus
You mentioned it so that you could say how hot they are if they wear the clothes you want them in. That's chauvinistic, not chivalrous.
dizzyplaya
so...appreciating beauty =/= chauvinism. the point isn't sexual here. it's about very real oppression of women.
WabbitCZEN
This.
dizzyplaya
the paradox of the SJW being forced to support the oppression of women in order to continue the crusade against men.
eagerophiuchus
I don't support oppression of women or any Islamic dress codes.. OP made a lame post about "gorgeous" women from a male gaze. Reread it.
th3goodj3rk
It is also typically associated with the type of people who think they know what other religions should or should not do.
WabbitCZEN
The last time a single religion tried to control every aspect of people's lives, we ended up in the dark ages.
CaptainShutTheFuckUp
You realize the dark ages are named as such because we don't know much about them historically/archaeologically and not be not (1)
th3goodj3rk
I'll bet that when you hit "Share With Community," you sat back smugly and thought, "Man, this is a really important post." It's not.
WabbitCZEN
No. I thought "this post makes a lot of sense to me let's see how many other people agree" Over a thousand people agree so far.
CaptainShutTheFuckUp
because civilization dipped during that period... (2)
Upierczi
Pakistan all the way.
MissMiaWallace
I think the right side look beautiful but aren't you guys proving the exact reason that they cover up...
jnnfrhll
The reason the left is covered up has nothing to do with men complimenting them. Quite the opposite. Plus religion.
ImGettingMines
It has nothing to do with religion all this covering up comes from Saudi Arabia. It's their culture that they pass on as religion.
ThatOneGuyAtWorkWithACorgi
Bosnia for me
PicklsMasterson
Be careful with dem Bosnian girls, mane. They'll outdrink you by double then tell their boyfriend they're in bed with you. Crazy I tell ya

brownsugarbk
I think thats my biggest problem, i really don't like a lot of paki people
bekind2joeblake
I know it's complicated, but some women really do choose to dress like that. They're usually deeply religious.do u feel the same about nuns?
creepcrab4711
fist of all nuns do they're doing it on their own wil,
creepcrab4711
second: they're not covering in full.
creepcrab4711
Muslim woman are forced to cover in full since they're considered less than an animal, only to pleasure males.
Iancb
and I've never seen a women stoned because she didn't wear the nun attire, nor is there any emphasis on having to wear it.
LadyMidnight
He's talking about how people mistake that the hijab as the traditional dress of a country rather than an extension of religion
yaksimus
The choice is driven by fear. Anyone who leaves slit for eyes to feel "safe" / modest or thinks they're making a choice needs counseling.
nipplepanties
I know it's not black and white, but there are regional and cultural traditions being trampled by islamic fundamentalism.
LadyMidnight
Christianity doesn't tell all women to dress like nuns. The attire is dress code of a religious profession like what a rabbi or Iman wear
Iancb
Nuns are such a small portion of the population, that choose to dress that way. Not because society tells them they have to, nor man, 1/
SchrodingersSchrodinger
Women who choose to become nuns as adults are different than someone told from birth how to dress, act &think, who'll be killed if they dont
bekind2joeblake
They don't start dressing like that till they're older. I see your point. It's really complicated
SchrodingersSchrodinger
It is. :)
WabbitCZEN
1) Nuns aren't required to be covered head to toe anytime they go outside. 2) Women who become Nuns made a conscious choice.
CometRelief
1) They do cover from head to toe (look at habits) 2) it is a conscious decision
CheshirexKitten
Plenty of nuns wear normal clothes. I've known several who teach in street clothes.
TheMonsterWithinYou
As a muslim woman, I know plenty of other Muslim some who choose to be covered head to toe.
th3goodj3rk
God forbid OP is presented with nuance.
CutChemist
As a white southerner, my aunt chooses to wear a hijab as she is a 15 year devout muslim. My Egyptian uncle is a truly wonderful person.
CutChemist
Though he called her in New York on 9/11 from the U.A.E. and told her to take her hijab off immediately. This world is sad sometimes.
kmikl
Yeah. I knew a few sikhs that took off their turbans and shaved afterwards as well... in Canada. Scary shit happened that day.
CutChemist
Fuck. They aren't even close to the same. I hate when sikhs get called "Turban heads" or whatever dumb shit. AND SHAVED!?!? That's crazy.
wrenchbike
And, not for nothin', but I'd take Islam more seriously if BOTH sexes were expected to cover up.
JodiferousTwain
Well.... One covers their face the other covers the explosives.
AccountCreatedToUpdogVotes
Why, does my hairy ankle turn you on?
Himitsubu
they both should, covering the face is not an Islamic thing. the men do not cover their hair though.
NorfolkBoy
Have you not seen men in traditional islamic dress? You aren't allowed to see their knees or their elbows. Or do you mean the face covering?
wrenchbike
I mean the head covering, for those expected to do that. I mean the face covering. It's sexist, even if it's not sexual.
NorfolkBoy
I see, well, don't worry, they will happily admit to being sexist, and talk about how evil and degrading men are, and it's all for women.
NorfolkBoy
Because the face covering is definitely a cultural companion to certain sects of Islam. I reckon those women on the right identify as muslim
MerToo
Tuareg men: "O halp we are be oppressed by traditional clothes...oh wait, we live in the fucking Sahara and have no cure for skin cancer..."
tiomela
Me too. It bugs me to see the men and kids dressed in Western clothes and the women in not - especially when it is 30+ degrees outside
wrenchbike
(For those of us in the less-civilized feet-and-inches world, the previous poster means 90+ degrees.)
Glazedham00
What they are wearing doesn't make them hot and for a majority of women the dress isn't a symbol of oppression it ties them to Allah.
AwkwardBiblophile
Personally I'm more bothered when people dont have a choice in what they wear than what they wear It's only oppression when they cant choose
tiomela
Yeah. If they choose, rock it out ladies. There were two ladies wearing head scarves yesterday at the late movie and they looked gorgeous!
Glazedham00
They can choose and they do. The few "oppressed" ones you are talking about is our equivalent to the Amish, would you call themthe same?
AwkwardBiblophile
In the US sure, but in many countries they would be social pariahs.
JohnVaddic19
Yes
HerrGeist
All religions treat women unfairly. Every. Last. One.
GuardianOfTheUserSub
Let me guess your a atheist who is also a vegan and somehow is also a feminazi
HerrGeist
Not even close
mindolluin
Check out the Sikh religion, women are equal, and the Society of Friends, which has always had women equal. There are others.
ifavoritensfw4978
Mainly just Christianity. Paganism and Buddhism (and probably some others) treat women equally.
cocoakoumori
Paganism covers a LOT of religions, which one? It's just a catch-all. Historically, it was just a term to describe non-Abrahamic religions.
HerrGeist
I don't really consider paganism a religion and Buddhism is more of a philosophical thing. But, it does show that dogma is what sucks.
LordSatanHimself
But in Christianity they are, for quite a long time. My church has one male pastor and two female pastors.
LordSatanHimself
Kinda confused as to how Christianity treats women unfairly. In many religions women are not allowed to be religious leaders
wrenchbike
Really? Paul tells women to be silent. 1Cor 14:34
UserrMaatIenpw
Ahahaha. "Women are to be quiet and never assume authority over a man" Yeah, completely equal.
randomCatholicguy
Christianity teaches that men and women are equal in value, but it doesn't pretend to teach that men and women are the same. That may 1/2
randomCatholicguy
entail "unequal" roles. 2/2
UserrMaatIenpw
Nono, telling a woman that she may not teach a man doesn't teach equality in value. There is zero reason that a woman cannot teach.
UserrMaatIenpw
Unless you're going to attempt to justify that men are biologically better at teaching, I'd love to hear this one.
