Mum sends her child in with a lunchbox packed with butter. You know those little fake butter single serves? Yeah them. About 15 of them. "He won't eat anything else, so I think he's deficient in good fats.. He needs the fat at the moment". Needless to say I fed the kid out of my own pocket.. he ate all the food.

So I had a parent come in to meet me, have a look around, etc. She was super lovely and kind, she loved everything about the daycare, her kid was an angel, they were literally the perfect family. They said they'd like to enroll. Then she said "Oh, there's just one thing though.. when he's in care ill need you to turn your phone off, and your wifi because she gets ADHD tendencies when she's exposed to radiation. Same with the microwave.."
Dude. I use the wifi for all my paperwork. The phone to be in contact with parents and update them and especially for emergencies. And the microwave for heating food. That ended up being a no..

We get this aaall the time. So child and mum come in as usual. I usually ask how everyone's been. Mum says child's doing really well. Child says 'I'm ok but I vomited in my sleep last night'. Mum awkwardly says 'Ha.. she woke up from a nightmare that she was sick!'
Day goes on, child mentions mumgave her panadol this morning. This pisses me off to no end and happens on a daily basis. Parents dose sick kid up before coming in, child arrives bright eyed and happy with no mention of previous sickness, cue 4 hours when it wears off and bam, child down. Along with the rest of the kids and staff who have been exposed all day. Does your child get sick at daycare? You can thank these type of people.

Anyway, next the kid says she vomited so many times last night. Suspicions hitting. Cue the 4 hours later. PROJECTILE VOMIT ERRRYWHERE x3. Thanks for the gastro guys, it's especially appreciated for spreading it to a grandparent who ended up in hospital and a newborn, as well as the rest of the kids.

Constantly late with payments. Like, this is my income, I care for your kids, I need my money. It's an equal trade.

So this one time she puts her best puppy dog eyes on and says she needs another week to get the money together, as usual. Hear her chatting with a parent about how she got her boobs done last week. I also have her on Facebook and she's always out at breakfast, getting her hair and nails done etc.

I will never forget this. I had a parent who was preeetty alternative. Her child has 'everything wrong with him' (he's perfectly healthy) so they're always trying new things. Anyway she brings in a bottle with aluminum foil on top. She says it's salt water (but a special salt, from somewhere in the ocean') and she says you need to put the foil on top, tip the bottle upside down three times (not shake it) and it'll charge the water which he,ps his digestive system.
Im no scientist but I'm pretty sure if you drink straight salt water you're gunna be on the toilet. I didn't do the foil thing, but mum came in the next day and said how great his bowels have been..k.

We'd all done a massive day at work. Home time comes and the poor kid hasn't been picked up. We called everywhere, all emergency contacts, and was down to the police as we couldn't get in contact with anyone. Cops find mum playing pokies. Apparently she didn't realize it was 9pm (we close at 6.30).

ALL THE FRIGGING TIME. Parents send in clearly unwell child. "It's just teething" they say. High temps, clammy, sore belly, vomit, miserable, exhausted.. its teething. It's always teething. Who knew teething was contagious? Me neither but we always end up sick from it.
I'm gentle with parents, especially new parents, but if your child is unwell, and even if it's genuinely teething, keep them home! They want their parents, not a busy and noisy environment.

I can't really expand on this. Feeling extra valued rn.

Yeah so.. mum comes in.. has a tiny chat.. and starts feeling my house. Like ru bing her hands on photo frames, random decor, candles, the tv. She says "I hope you don't find this rude, I just can tell a person better by the vibe I get from their belongings than talking or looking at them" apparently she liked my vibe but I didn't take them on. Next she'll be touching the kids t see if they're a suitable friend.

Anyway, thanks guys for reading. I have a million and one stories so let me know if you want more. I've worked in centres but most of these are from my family daycare, we get the interesting ones here.

Some parents of small children can be fucking psychos.

I've worked in child care since I graduated high school 6 years ago. You will never be more sick in your life!

I already can't stand kids, but having to deal with parents like that...bless you OP, I would've long ago ended up in jail.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People are the worst. Good stuff OP.

THIS IS SPARTA!!!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I worked with kids for over five years. I won't go back because I refuse to deal with parents. Also, gastro feels like dying.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Pokies means jail where I live.. Was very confused.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel so bad for you. You literally work supporting the spawn of retards. I'm sure the kids are sweet (well most), but damn. I feel for you

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Hahah this made me really want to do one for preschool. With some of the parents I've seen, no wonder the kids behave the way they do.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

#3 My mom was once fired from a job she had for two weeks because I caught the flu. Who you can really thank for this BS is capitalism.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

I got turned down for a promotion at work because I took about a week off when my kid was in hospital. I had medical certificates and all.

If your child gets adhd from radiation then you should turn off all your lights as well and put him in a Faraday cage.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*shakes head*

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yes, more please!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is insanity. I've been worried about sending my little one to daycare, but seeing the parents are crazy instead of the daycare...

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

...workers (like you see on the news) makes me feel much better. Ridiculous stories. Sorry for all the shit you put up with.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't worry about the staff, media is reallllyyy messed up. It's the kind of job that you have to be passionate about to do so pretty

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

much all the staff are amazing. They wouldn't be there if they didn't absolutely love it. :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I imagine I'm echoing everyone else's words: more!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I worked at a day care and I hate when people bring their kids in sick. I had a woman tell me oh she threw up at 1am she's fine now. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The little girl threw up moments after her mother dropped her off.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i'm a preschool teacher. i HATE the "teething" excuse. i have a 1 year old and i change my clothes/wash up the instant i get home

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Scientology grade crazy!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People think the hardest part of working in childcare is the kids but it's the parents all the way

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yep. Work retail and child care.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Learn to live with the stupid...bc it's illegal to shoot them.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My sister used to be a child minder and one of the kids arrived every day with a can of Coke and a Mars bar. My sis suggested a Mars every

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

But chocolate has dairy and it comes from a fruit, and coke has water so def nutritious right ;)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

day wasn't good for the kid. The nest day she turned up with a Snickers bar instead.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

*next, dammit

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

OMG, that's messed up.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a father of 2 kids in daycare: Parents suck. All of them. Myself included. Not the Mrs., though.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

First one I'm pretty sure I would inform child services about

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I would've called child services on almost every one of them.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

(1) I agree with you on most of this, but as a working mother as well as employer, it's absolutely ridiculous to keep a teething child home

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

(2) Or really any child has a non contagious illness or minor discomfort such as an ear infection

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Teethings no issue :) It's people who's child clearly has gastro, or the flu, and say it's teething to get away with it

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

You said in your post, "even if it's genuinely teething they want you keep them at home". That's where my comment stemmed from.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

exactly. people always use the "he's just a little warm from teething." no, that's a fever and usually indicates that it's contagious.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Aussie? Aussie.

10 years ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 0

Pokies was a dead giveaway

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

And panadol

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"gastro" is another Aussie term, or at least not American.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never realised this was an Aussie term. Though really, we just shorten everything to make life easier.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna guess that's some kind of gambling. Am I close?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poker slots. Had to google "playing pokies." Googling just "pokies" brought up something completely different.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's making me feel completely bogan now

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The salt water... it's not in a branded bottle, is it? I know someone who's selling glorified salt water to cure EVERYTHING.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry ;), as a single dad I've used the no she's not sick she's just coughing from the dry bikkies she just ate, again sorry :D

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I knew no one believed me but stuck to my guns had to go to work :D (wasn't contagious but) just had a bad cough

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well you're definitely an Aussie too hahaha. Coughs are fine seriously! Just not when paired with vomit and lung infection and gross stuff

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Worked at a day care. Subsequently got sick for 6 weeks and I swear each week was a different illness.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hahaa yup North of Brisbane ;)... And yeah that would suck

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I knew from panadol. That bitch with the boob job , cant pay you sob story i hope you told her where to go

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I thought British due to panadol until I had to google pokies.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha i forget other countries might not know one words. Yeah she is long gone!

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

We have Panadol in NZ too. Thought it might be NZ.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good to hear! :) At least your days aren't dull lol

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*some words

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How I imagine @OP feels on a regular basis.

10 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

At first you'd think it was the kids, but you'd be wrong. The parents are the idiots. Source: taught middle school for two years.

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Kids haven't learned enough to be stupid yet at that age.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right that's what I'm saying. Never meant to imply it was the kids. I know enough idiots with kids. That would pull the same shit.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

100% yes. Kids are easy. Parents are the worst.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It's not your job to care for sick kids but sometimes parents can't take a day off work and have no one else to watch the kid for the day

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 9

So you're the kind of dick who send their sick kid to daycare then?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Plus sending a sick child in means 100 other parents and children and staff need to take a day off too. Its pure selfish.

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

I am not excusing it, but did you know that many children can pass on contagious illnesses without showing any symptoms themselves?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Of course. And naturally things will spread. But prevention o obvious illness is the main issue.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

From my experience i think this is plain stupid. I used to help out at a kindergarten and daycare and if a child was admitted sick we would-

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

try and keep him away from other healthy kids and basically keep them in a mini quarantine especially with children in spreads fast 2/3

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that sometimes we had to wear surgical masks around the children so that we did not pass it on from the amount we needed to work with kids

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always quaratined, but i work by myself.. I can't care for a vomiting child while caring for the others.. It doesn't work unless more staff

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A local hospital opened a sick child daycare for employees. So popular they opened it for public to enroll.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's seriously an amazing idea!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Doesn't matter. Imagine how awful the kid feels.. If a parent can't take a day off work for their sick child, they need to reassess.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 3

We had a young girl screaming and crying about stomach pain. Dad was at home but insisted she'd be fine for the remaining 3 hours.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some parents might get fired if they take the day off work, much as they might want to. It's goddamned hard to find a new job.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

With some initiative though they could call in a babysitter so the child's comfortable, at home, and less likely to spread sickness :)

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

And if there are no babysitters around, then what? For many people, sending a sick child to daycare is the absolute last resort.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 13

Think of the newborns getting gastro and the grandparents on life support from an illness that came from daycare.. I totally understand whe

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Most parents do it out of desperation, not necessarily "selfishness".

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

So they send the kid to daycare and hope the kid can make it threw the day without throwing up

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Vomit/runny poo is where I draw the line, but I've definitely done the teething one before. The worst thing is, my kids' daycare will...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

...often call me to collect my kid when she's not even sick. They'll say she was, but when we go and get her, she'll be fine all day long.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whenever we've sent her while she was teething, they've never called us to collect her.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There must have been something, or maybe they're not trained enough? Here we have strict policies, so if a childs unwell they HAVE to go

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

We do not really have any babysitters around here, either. Could also be a case of not having the cash upfront to pay one.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Otherwise if say the department rocked up for a spot visit and saw a sick child whose parents haven't been contacted, we'd be fined.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, one of the times when they called me home, as soon as I collected my child, the director of the centre went home.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is pokies?

10 years ago | Likes 189 Dislikes 4

Sluts.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I didn't read the description on that image and thought it meant mom was in jail. Thought it was some weird way of saying "in the pokey"

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

At first i thought poker, then i googled it and got women with hard nipples showing through their clothes and i got very confused...

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I interpreted it the pokey. Slang for Jail / Gaol

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was assuming "Pokemon Go", and I don't even play it...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I worked briefly in a child minding service in an rsl. Kids could only stay for 2 hours to make sure parents didnt abandon their kids.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There were also several times i had to refuse to give the child back because they were drunk. I had to call the next of kin.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought you were using some weird term for a prostitute.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

A prostitute that gets poked, or one that pokes you?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Idk, something.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes
