At home I don't worry about it too much but in professional kitchens you NEVER treat a knife like any dish cause people can hurt themselves if they aren't aware in a fast paced working environment. Also, DO NOT put a knive in a sink of water. Most chefs clean their own knives not just because they are a precious tool, they are sharp as fuck and can hurt someone.
