Murals would be great too! In my area are a lot of blind walls and I really wish they had art on them, nobody is looking at them and they would make for great landmarks as well. There are a few murals out in the neigbourhood and they really brighten up the streets.

Definitely do it, it if seems daunting to get started (not sure how used you are to going really big) you can use an overhead projector (old school or digital) to get your composition down, then fill in. :)
