I would have messed up 10 minutes ago.

You put your weed in it.

Measure... nonce, cut once?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Why do you have a box of fingers?"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, yes. The special German plans.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Impressive. Not the box, how bad it's going to hurt when I get my fucking finger pinched in it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was going to mention the pinch points.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Slower, you slut.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A kitten trap?

Awesome!

Step 1: acquire thousands of dollars worth of equipment/tools and a shop to put them in

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Cool, but somewhat shaped like a swastika.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This absolutely butters my biscuits.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did that cut off piece of wood stop motioned away itself?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

anyone else think it looks a wee bit like a swastika?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

There is literally nothing that could happen in this video that would prepare me to make this

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Why not solid wood for something cool like this?

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

It warps.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Think this is demonstrating proof-of-concept. Thus 'carpentry idea'

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Because it would be worse.

People tend to perceive plywood as "cheap" and "inferior", but it has dimensional stability. Plywood is ideal for cabinetry and other carcass work where you need predictable alignment that won't change over time like solid wood will, especially if that alignment is for fitting/nesting moving pieces.

There are ways to mitigate wood movement in carcass work, but they all add bulk to the frame. In something this small, it would add relatively considerable bulk.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Most likely "proof of concept", amd youd also be surprised how nice you can make simple plywood with the right trimming and a bit of care.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because it wouldn't move or have room for anything inside it?

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

Lol :)

$$$ vs $$

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Important to note that this will most likely only work this smoothly if youre very precise and have the right tools to do it.

You can identify carpentry porn the same way you can see if a picture is made by AI.

I mean did you see that sander?

I have EYES don't I?

f*** yesss...

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That'll break in a week

2 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 24

Being a parent, only way it survives is if it's my son's. Something to be said for an only. No siblings to ruin it for them.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Yeah those little picture frame nails 😔

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Looks like it did as the shots with it working have a hex bolt in the middle of the box....

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My thoughts too.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I'm betting more like, "It'll break something in a week."

You want to get something out of one drawer, and they all extend out. You've placed a glass nearby and one of those drawers reaches out and knocks it over, which flips down off the edge of the table onto the hardwood floor. *CRASH*!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure it's just proof-of-concept and you would use better materials on a final version.

2 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

Okay, I'll wait for a gif of the final product

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 54

That's the point. It's a bad idea.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Then why dont you

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

This was "carpentry ideas" not "carpentry finished products"

2 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 2

Thus the waiting

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

Looks beautiful, yet seems somewhat useless.

It is

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Jewelry box, maybe? I mean, it's basically just a small box with drawers, but they made it open in a fun way, instead of normal drawer pulls.

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

Right? I was thinking of a candy dish or a hobby kit container, or maybe a set of party games, or something for poker. Lots of options for those willing to see.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Poker chip sorter does sound promising. Maybe dice and figures for DnD? Lots of potential uses. Needing the space for all the drawers to open at the same time would be a bit annoying for me, but I didn't build it nor am I buying it. Whoever its targeted for will enjoy it just fine, for whatever purpose they feel like using it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same usefulness as any small set of drawers, really. And this way you can have all the drawers open at once, for example if you've got different coloured beads or something in each one. A small chest of drawers would only let you have one open at a time, instead of opening all at once like this. Actually very convenient and portable.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

All drawers open at the same time, in different directions, meaning you have to clear space in all directions to open the case without knocking something over.

Don't get me wrong, it's ingenious, but I still think it's highly impractical.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd personally love this for beads, especially if each drawer was divided in fourths. I have plenty of space on my desk for it to open. If they left the middle dowel there and put a handle on it so I could pick it up and bring it with me, it would be perfect.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imagine if it's for some sort of small craft, like painting miniatures or making fly fishing lures. I can see it being useful.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Could be very useful for someone who works in a wood shop a ton. Could hold dowels or biscuits or different sized nails or screws or so on. I think it says more about people when they say they don't think it's useful. Of course it's useful.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What advantages do you see in this drawer arrangement?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To start, if you have a larger shop that has supplies all around storage, like along the walls and in drawers, and you start a project needing some specific things like dowels or such. You could have this box on your main work table with what is needed in it, and it saves a lot of hassle and time not needing to go grab something randomly from a drawer or such. It is right there on the work table, ready to grab in a convenient container.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're set up to choose between various "this has four drawers of the size I need" configurations, you oughta pick whatever you like better, and the novelty/aesthetics of a spinny box like this could beat out some plain practicality. Tastes differ tho.
