Holy shit that grass
ThisMonkeysGoneToHeaven
Yeah if someone could go ahead and make a animated densely plotted sci-fi thriller series in this style, that would be great
irritabletom
I find these really soothing.
Murd0c
Yea Sif my boy!!!!
CanTunaPiano
I love it.
UndertokerGaming
Pixel art is by far my favorite visual art form.
Erik604
I need more rain and city lights in my life.
cuteandcuddly
I want a virtual headset that will allow me to see the world in pixelart. I'll pay $500.

One of these things is not like the others
JrSwifterz
First three from VA-11 HALL-A really peaked my interest. Hopefully the devs get the money to get out of Venuzuela.

In the year 2072, this is how people will send their nudes. To robots, because meatbags survive by the will of their steel overlords.
LongMeatMarcuss
What are these called? Where can I learn to make these? I am very interested
ND1Razor
Try /r/pixelart
Pudd1ngcess
@OP, I know this is asking a lot, but really, no sources? Artists put so much time into their work, shame for you take their recognition.
mcpacey
Why does #5 need to be a gif?
yournudesarewelcomedinmyinbox
there's a little bit of flickering that's hard to see through the app
Larkef
Dat flickering from the lights. :)
UndertokerGaming
Source for all the people politely ( and not so politely ) asking: 4chan :p sorry y'all. But... r/pixelart is a haven!
lewaq
I would play the shit of all these.

Maybe because it's a guy on one ledge, looking at the other, with a "so close yet so far" gap between.

A sense of comfy for me :)
ModusPonens
Feelings of longing — of deep, insatiable yearning — are super common for me with images like these. It's like unquenchable thirst.
phlat6
alone in an indifferent city, late at night, people passing by in glimpses, the sound of rain against concrete.
ramseyj
Me too!
blais
Really love this one.
jodms15
I get that feeling looking at these futuristic cityscapes. Maybe a longing for a future like that that we know we won't have
Anthrenar
I encourage you to check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9L4q-0Pi4E . It conjures the same feeling for me. I also listened (1/2)
Anthrenar
(2/3) to it a lot during a particular period of my life. I associate it with wanting a relationship with a girl, long nights, friends,
Anthrenar
(3/4)...Those times are gone. I have the memories, though... I just hope that feeling, the one for which there are no words, never fades
Anthrenar
Because it's genuinely irreplaceable. I can only describe the people, places, things. Good times... I really, really hope there are better
Anthrenar
times ahead... or else I get too sad! I have to hope, because those times weren't perfect. Far from it.
BigPig69
I feel that.
StringVariable
I'd like to file a complaint about #19 :P
Chadss
I'm ashamed to admit that I tried way too long to see the pixels
Neothemod
HE'S A FAKE SLAV! He squat like a western man
Proveyourselftome
Which game is this?
gir2195
Right there with you
druddy
Technically, all images and gifs on the Internet are pixellated.
StringVariable
There's SVG and other vector formats <_< So technically only your rendering of the images is always pixellated.
peterned
I wonder if future generations will still dig pixels as we do for its nostalgic factor, or rather as a retro-pixel-design thing like 1/2
iamMichaelDavis
Mosaic art has been around long before digital displays :)
TheDom275
I think they will like it purely because it looks nice. I'm too young to get nostalgia from pixel art but I think this is mesmerising stuff.
GoldenVoltZ
I was born after pixel art was needed, and I'm still a sucker for games that use it.
Tefal
We've been digging that stuff for a long time already. Look up Impressionism and especially Pointillism...
peterned
That is so true :) thnx!
CrabWallet
+1. First thing I thought of. It's satisfying to watch the brain do its fill-in thing sometimes.
Winterous
Personally I don't like it for nostalgia reasons, but because pixel art is usually just more visually pleasing.
Balenar
Same i was born after the pixel age but i still love the look of pixels
Winterous
Like, you don't even need to use it for a "retro" look, it's just a very valid art style.
peterned
2/2 instagrame filters and synth-wave / chip-tune music.
coolguycoolguy
I love synthwave and new-retro aesthetics (particularly emulating the 80's), and its weird because I wasn't alive for the 80's. I think 1/2
coolguycoolguy
that aesthetic speaks to me because its so foreign. Like a lost fantasy land you only hear about in tales. Plus, Hotline Miami rules. 2/2
dandydust
The binding of isaac for its amazing capacity for compelling story arch and character development. Is that hope? So many dimensions for a 2d
Speedwagonsan
Just read "binding of Isaac" and knew there's no hope anymore
10sky
0/10, would not recommend that nasty P.O.S. game. The story is disgusting, and the gameplay is "meh, okay" at best.
Kompi
Only specialists dig herioglyphs. At the same time, pretty much everyone has read a book or two, some even old books
Esherian
O my god! The grass in #10. Amazing.
OptimisticDownvoteLover
Grass? Thought those were waves or water or something ye
CandiedJalapenos
It was beautiful. I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciated it.
hallohallohallo
The grass is copied from the opening scene of Werner Herzog's 1974 movie "The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser"
PicoLegion
While it could be done by hand, it looks to me like they took a video and ...made it look pixely. I still like it, however it was done!
milkymoocowmoo
Definitely automated conversion. Nobody would draw *and then animate* that by hand then go on to leave in all that colour compression.
PikaChunin
It looks fantastic! I don't know why I find the aesthetic of pixel art so appealing.
MeisPip
Oh shit that is grass... i thought it was water...
ethanicus
As a hobbyist pixel artist, that actually made me cry a little.
MallenD
First 3 are from a visual novel called VA 11 Halla and your a bartender in a dystopian future really cool and fun game so if you can play it

I cannot tell what the hell I would be doing in that game. Seriously. What's it like to play?
lewachan
You're offering customers drinks by their request in real-time and have stories w/ ppl. Kinda like "Papers, Please" if you've ever heard of
JDonte
Other than just mixing the drinks, which is pretty simple itself, you're pretty much just there for the story

Nice. I met the guy who made Read Only Memories which has crossover ties-in with Va11Halla, and I bought both, and have so far loved ROM.
TeenBean
I'm planning on playing ROM! I wished I bought it during the steam sales but I was still playing Va11halla feelsbadman
caseyweederman
Looking forward to playing VA11HALLA. Love the art style.
